Fleet Services by Cox Automotive is currently hiring a Mobile Diesel Technician Level II.

The Mobile Diesel Technician Level II will be responsible for performing licensed DOT inspections, preventive maintenance inspections, light repairs, and follow-up repairs. You will also conduct light mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and electronic diagnostics, along with other duties as assigned. The Technician II performs more advanced diagnostics and repairs under supervision and continues to learn additional skills and techniques. A successful Technician II complies with all company policies and meets high performance metrics.

DUTIES:

  1. Perform scheduled preventive maintenance (“PM”), DOT inspections, and follow-up repairs on light, medium, and heavy-duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
  2. Perform minor adjustments and repairs on various truck equipment, including electrical, brake, cooling systems, starters, alternators, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines (gas and diesel), transmissions, clutches, differentials, etc.
  3. Diagnose, adjust, and repair various truck equipment using test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges.
  4. Road test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and ensure proper operation.
  5. Identify problems, evaluate information, and generate solutions using sound judgment.
  6. Manage parts inventory and equipment on the company-issued service truck, performing periodic reconciliations.
  7. Maintain and operate the service vehicle, conduct safety checks, and perform pre-/post-trip inspections.
  8. Communicate effectively with clients and customers to assess needs, provide information, resolve problems, and meet expectations.
  9. Manage multiple tasks, prioritize work, and allocate time effectively.
  10. Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.
  11. Document work performed, parts used, and observations using company standards and the TRAIT application on an iOS device.
  12. Complete DOT forms and other documentation promptly.
  13. Work independently, managing your daily schedule efficiently.
  14. Maintain high productivity and work within or close to standard repair times.
  15. Procure parts from approved vendors as needed for repairs.
  16. Coordinate with management via email or phone for approvals, purchase orders, and notes.
  17. Follow safety, health, environmental policies, and federal regulations, including OSHA, EPA, and DOT standards.
  18. Maintain the company-issued service truck, conduct safety checks, and perform daily inspections.

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. High School Diploma/GED and 3 years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  2. Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary for the job.
  3. Obtain ASE T8 (PMI) certification within 18 months.
  4. Must pass DOT-regulated background screening and physical prior to employment.
  5. Possess a valid DOT medical card with at least 4 months remaining or be able to obtain one.
  6. Be at least 21 years old due to interstate commerce regulations.
  7. Maintain a safe driving record; a valid driver’s license is required.

Required Certifications or Within 18 Months:

  • ASE T8 (PMI) certification

Preferred Certifications:

  • ASE T3 (Drivetrain), T4 (Brakes), T5 (Suspension), T6 (Electrical), T7 (HVAC), and 608/609 certifications
