Fleet Services By Cox Automotive is currently hiring a Mobile Diesel Mechanic – Bus Mechanic – Level II.

The Mobile Diesel Mechanic – Bus Mechanic - Level II will be responsible for performing licensed DOT inspections, Preventative Maintenance inspections, light and follow-up repairs, light mechanical/hydraulic/electrical and electronic diagnostics, and other duties as assigned. The Diesel Technician II can perform more advanced diagnostics and repairs under supervision. The role involves learning additional advanced mechanical skills and diagnostic techniques. A successful Diesel Technician II complies with all company policies and achieves high performance metrics.

DUTIES:

• Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (“PM”), DOT Inspections, and follow-up repairs on vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
• Perform minor adjustments and repairs on various truck equipment including electrical, brake, cooling systems, starters, alternators, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines, transmissions, clutches, differentials, etc.
• Diagnose, adjust, and repair truck equipment using test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges.
• Road test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and ensure proper operation.
• Manage parts inventory and perform reconciliation.
• Maintain and operate company-issued service vehicle, conduct safety checks, and pre-/post-trip inspections.
• Work effectively with clients and customers, assessing needs and providing assistance.
• Prioritize tasks and manage time efficiently.
• Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.
• Document work performed, parts used, and observations using company-issued devices and applications.
• Complete DOT forms and other documentation timely.
• Work independently and manage daily schedule.
• Maintain productivity within standard repair times.
• Obtain parts from vendors as needed.
• Communicate with management regarding repairs and approvals.
• Follow safety, health, and environmental policies, including OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulations.
• Maintain company-issued service truck and conduct safety checks.

REQUIREMENTS:

• High School Diploma/GED and 3 years’ experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Possess and supply necessary hand tools.
• Obtain ASE T8 (PMI) certification within 18 months.
• Pass DOT-regulated background screening and physical.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain a Driver Qualification File.
• At least 21 years old due to interstate commerce regulations.

Certifications:

• ASE T8 (PMI) certification within 18 months.
• Preferred: ASE T3, T4, T5, T6, T7, 608/609 certifications.
