Fleet Services By Cox Automotive is currently hiring a Mobile Diesel Technician Level II.

The Mobile Diesel Technician Level II will be responsible for performing licensed DOT inspections, Preventative Maintenance inspections, light and follow-up repairs, light mechanical/hydraulic/electrical and electronic diagnostics, and other duties as assigned. The Mobile Diesel Technician II can perform more advanced diagnostics and repairs under the supervision of a Sr Mobile Diesel Technician or higher. The Diesel Technician II continues to learn additional advanced mechanical skills and diagnostic techniques. A successful Diesel Technician II complies with all company policies and achieves high level performance metrics.

DUTIES:
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (“PM”), DOT Inspections and follow-up repairs on light, medium and heavy-duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
  • Perform minor adjustments and repairs on various types of truck equipment including, but not limited to: Electrical/Brake/Cooling Systems, Starters/Alternators, Fan clutches, Engine electronics, Diesel steering systems, Engines (gas and diesel), Transmissions (manual and automatic), Clutches, Differentials, etc.
  • Diagnose, adjust, and repair various types of truck equipment including, but not limited to: Electrical/Brake/Cooling Systems, Starters/Alternators, Air conditioning systems, Fan clutches, Engine electronics, Diesel steering systems, Engines (gas and diesel), Transmissions (manual and automatic), Clutches, Differentials, etc.
  • Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions, using test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges.
  • Road test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and to ensure proper operation.
  • Identify problems, determine accuracy and relevance of information, using sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives.
  • Manage parts inventory and equipment on company-issued service trucks, performing periodic reconciliation.
  • Maintain and operate company-issued service vehicle, conduct safety checks, and pre-/post-trip inspections.
  • Work with clients and customers to assess needs, provide information or assistance, and resolve problems.
  • Prioritize and manage concurrent tasks effectively.
  • Use hand tools, precision instruments, Diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.
  • Document work according to standards, upload pictures, and complete Repair Orders using company devices and applications.
  • Complete DOT forms and other documentation timely.
  • Work independently, managing daily schedules efficiently.
  • Maintain productivity within or close to Standard Repair Times.
  • Source parts from approved vendors as needed.
  • Communicate with management/support teams for approvals and notes.
  • Follow safety, health, and environmental policies, including OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulations.
  • Conduct safety checks and daily inspections of company-issued service trucks.
REQUIREMENTS:
  • High School Diploma/GED and 3 years’ experience in a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary for the job.
  • Obtain ASE T8 (PMI) certification within 18 months.
  • Pass DOT-regulated background screening and physical before employment.
  • Valid DOT medical card or valid medical exam card with more than 4 months remaining.
  • Must be at least 21 years old due to interstate commerce regulations.
  • Valid driver’s license and a clean 3-year MVR review.
Certifications:
  • Required: ASE T8 (PMI) within 18 months.
  • Preferred: ASE T3, T4, T5, T6, T7, 608/609.
