Fleet Services by Cox Automotive is currently hiring a Mobile Diesel Technician Level II.
The Mobile Diesel Technician Level II will be responsible for performing licensed DOT inspections, preventative maintenance inspections, light and follow-up repairs, light mechanical/hydraulic/electrical and electronic diagnostics, and other duties as assigned. The Mobile Diesel Technician II can perform more advanced diagnostics and repairs under the supervision of a Sr Mobile Diesel Technician or higher. The Diesel Technician II continues to learn additional advanced mechanical skills and diagnostic techniques. A successful Diesel Technician II complies with all company policies and achieves high-level performance metrics.
DUTIES:
- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (“PM”), DOT inspections, and follow-up repairs on light, medium, and heavy-duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
- Perform minor adjustments and repairs on various types of truck equipment including, but not limited to: Electrical/Brake/Cooling Systems, Starters/Alternators, Fan clutches, Engine electronics, Diesel steering systems, Engines (gas and diesel), Transmissions (manual and automatic), Clutches, Differentials, etc.
- Diagnose, adjust, and repair various types of truck equipment including, but not limited to: Electrical/Brake/Cooling Systems, Starters/Alternators, Air conditioning systems, Fan clutches, Engine electronics, Diesel steering systems, Engines (gas and diesel), Transmissions (manual and automatic), Clutches, Differentials, etc.
- Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions, using test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges.
- Road test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and ensure proper operation.
- Identify problems, determine the accuracy and relevance of information, using sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives.
- Manage parts inventory and equipment provided on the company-issued service truck, performing periodic reconciliation.
- Maintain and operate the company-issued service vehicle, conduct safety checks, and perform pre-/post-trip inspections.
- Work with clients and customers to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve problems, or satisfy expectations.
- Manage concurrent tasks, prioritizing work activities and time effectively.
- Use hand tools, precision instruments, Diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.
- Document work according to company standards, upload pictures of work performed, parts used, and findings on Repair Orders (“RO”) using the company-issued iOS device and proprietary TRAIT application.
- Complete DOT forms and other documentation promptly.
- Work independently, managing your daily schedule efficiently.
- Maintain high productivity and work within or close to standard repair times.
- Obtain parts from approved vendors as necessary for repairs.
- Communicate with management and support teams via email or phone for approvals, purchase orders, or discussing RO findings.
- Perform all work in compliance with safety, health, environmental policies, and federal regulations including OSHA, EPA, and DOT.
- Maintain the service truck, conduct safety checks, and perform daily pre/post-trip inspections.
REQUIREMENTS:
- High School Diploma/GED and 3 years’ experience in a related field, or a different combination such as any higher degree/certification beyond HS diploma/GED with relevant experience, or 5 years’ related experience.
- Possess and supply necessary hand tools for the job.
- Obtain ASE certification T8 (PMI) within 18 months.
- Pass a DOT-regulated pre-employment background check and DOT physical. A current DOT medical card with more than four months remaining may suffice temporarily.
- Must be at least 21 years old due to interstate commerce regulations.
- Maintain a valid driver’s license and a clean 3-year MVR review.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS OR OBTAINED WITHIN 18 MONTHS:
- ASE T8 (PMI) certification

- ASE T5 (Suspension)
- ASE T6 (Electrical and Electronic Systems)
- ASE T7 (HVAC)
- ASE 608/609 certification
