Mobile Diesel Technician Level II
The Mobile Diesel Technician Level II will perform licensed DOT inspections, preventative maintenance inspections, light and follow‑up repairs, and light mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and electronic diagnostics under the supervision of a Senior Mobile Diesel Technician or higher. This role continues to develop advanced mechanical skills and diagnostic techniques while maintaining high performance metrics and adhering to company policies.
DUTIES
- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM), DOT inspections, and follow‑up repairs on light, medium, and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
- Conduct minor adjustments and repairs on truck equipment, including electrical, brake, cooling, starter/alternator, fan clutch, engine electronics, diesel steering, engines, transmissions, clutches, and differentials.
- Diagnose, adjust, and repair various truck equipment types, using compatible test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges.
- Road test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and assure proper operation.
- Identify problems using sound judgment and evaluate alternatives.
- Independently manage parts inventory, perform periodic reconciliation, and maintain company‑issued service vehicle safety checks and pre/post‑trip inspections.
- Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.
- Document work in Repair Orders (RO) via the company‑issued iOS device and our proprietary TRAIT application.
- Complete DOT forms and all required documentation timely.
- Maintain a high level of productivity, meeting or exceeding standard repair times.
- Obtain parts from approved vendors as necessary.
- Communicate with management and support teams to secure approvals and discuss RO findings.
- Ensure all work complies with safety, health, environmental, OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulations.
- Work independently and manage daily schedule effectively.
REQUIREMENTS
- High School Diploma/GED and 3 years of related experience (or equivalent degree/certification with 5 years of experience).
- Must possess a set of hand tools necessary for the job.
- Obtain ASE T8 (PMI) certification within 18 months.
- Pass DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening and DOT physical (or provide a current DOT medical card with >4 months validity).
- Must be at least 21 years old and hold a valid state driver’s license.
- Valid driver’s license required; maintain a Driver Qualification File.

Compensation
Hourly pay ranges from $26.73 to $40.10 per hour, adjusted based on location and candidate qualifications. Additional compensation may include commission (annual, monthly, etc.) and/or incentive programs.
