Job Overview

The Mobile Diesel Technician Level II will perform licensed DOT inspections and preventive maintenance inspections, handle light repairs, conduct diagnostics on mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and electronic equipment, and manage parts inventory. The Technician will work independently in a mobile field environment and support fleet operations nationwide.

Duties
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (“PM”), DOT Inspections, and follow-up repairs on light, medium, and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile environment.
  • Perform minor adjustments and repairs on truck equipment including electrical, brake, cooling, starters, alternators, fan clutches, diesel steering, engines, transmissions, clutches, differentials, etc.
  • Diagnose, adjust, and repair various truck equipment, including electrical/ brake/ cooling systems, air conditioning, etc.
  • Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions using test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges.
  • Road test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and ensure proper operation.
  • Identify problems, determine accuracy and relevance of information, and generate and evaluate alternatives using sound judgment.
  • Independently manage parts inventory and perform periodic reconciliation.
  • Maintain and operate company‑issued service vehicle, conduct pre‑/post‑trip inspections and safety checks.
  • Work with clients and customers to assess needs, provide information or assistance, and resolve their problems.
  • Manage concurrent tasks, prioritizing work and time allocations effectively.
  • Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.
  • Document work performed, parts used, and findings on Repair Orders (“RO”) using iOS devices and the TRAIT application.
  • Accurately complete DOT forms and other required documentation in a timely fashion.
  • Work independently and manage daily schedule.
  • Maintain high productivity and meet standard repair times.
  • Obtain parts from approved vendors as needed.
  • Communicate with management and support via email or phone to obtain approvals, retrieve PO numbers, and discuss RO notes.
  • Perform work in compliance with safety, health, environmental policies, and federal regulations, including OSHA, EPA, and DOT.
  • Maintain company‑issued service truck and conduct safety checks and pre/post‑trip inspections.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma/GED and 3 years of experience in a related field (or an equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary for job duties.
  • Obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) T8 (PMI) certification within 18 months.
  • Pass DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening and DOT physical, or provide a DOT medical card with more than 4 months remaining.
  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to maintain a Driver Qualification File.
Required Certifications or to be obtained within 18 months
  • ASE T8 (PMI) certification.
Preferred Certifications
  • ASE T3 (Drivetrain) certification.
  • ASE T4 (Brakes) certification.
  • ASE T5 (Suspension) certification.
  • ASE T6 (Electrical and Electronic Systems) certification.
  • ASE T7 (HVAC) certification.
  • ASE 608/609 certification.
