The Mobile Device Testing Engineer will be responsible for planning, executing, and managing test activities for mobile devices and wireless products.
This role involves validating software and hardware functionality, managing test environments and samples, executing regression and certification testing, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure high-quality product delivery.
The engineer will also be responsible for troubleshooting issues, conducting root cause analysis, and maintaining compliance with testing standards and processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, document, and revise test plans, test procedures, and quality standards for wireless products and related accessories.
- Manage cross-functional bug reporting, resolution processes, and software upgrades using OEM tools.
- Oversee test sample inventory, ensuring tracking, activation/deactivation, and firmware upgrades.
- Validate OEM and test partner results by executing regression test plans and ad hoc random testing.
- Test and certify maintenance releases (MRs) and security MRs by executing regression and impacted test cases.
- Compile test results data, collect logs, and prepare engineering reports for OEMs and fix agents.
- Update and maintain issue tracking systems to ensure accurate and current information sharing.
- Perform troubleshooting, field testing, and root cause analysis to resolve issues and enhance customer satisfaction.
- Deploy new test tools as required and ensure adherence to testing practices and standards.
- Collaborate with internal development, E2E teams, and stakeholders to ensure quality deliverables.
- Monitor customer-reported issues and develop improved test methods.
- Prepare estimates, schedules, risk analysis, RCA reports, and publish preventive measures.
- Participate in test design reviews, walkthroughs, and demos; prepare test summary reports.
- Contribute to knowledge management by consuming, reviewing, and sharing best practices and lessons learned.
Required Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electronics & Telecommunications, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent).
- 5+ years of experience in product development or technology management roles, with 3+ years in mobile/wireless space.
- Hands-on experience with automation tools such as Spirent or Eggplant.
- Basic logging skills using QXDM and QCAT.
- Strong knowledge of LTE and 5G RF and Core technologies.
- Experience with test case design, functional and regression testing, performance/stress testing, and quality assurance activities.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Effective communication skills (verbal and written) with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience with JIRA, Confluence, and test management tools.
- Working knowledge of smartphones (Android/iOS), mobile telecommunications technologies (GSM/WCDMA/LTE/Wi-Fi), and SIM/eSIM technologies.
Preferred Qualifications- Experience in certifying mobile products for an MNO or MVNO.
- Familiarity with iOS platforms (iPhones, iPads, Apple Watches) and Android OEM variations.
- Strong project management and coordination skills across matrixed teams.
- Knowledge of test automation frameworks, continuous testing practices, and DevOps integration.
- Proven track record in delivering projects on time and within budget expectations.
