Job summary

Immich is seeking a talented mobile developer with Flutter and native iOS/Android expertise to join our small, remote-first team. You’ll deliver features for the mobile apps, tackle photo library integration, background synchronization, and performance tuning to serve hundreds of thousands of users.

Work autonomously in a fast-moving environment, contribute to architectural decisions, and participate in open-source projects when possible.

Qualifications

• Proven Flutter and Dart experience with production apps.
• Strong knowledge of iOS/Android internals.
• Experience with PHAsset and MediaStore APIs.
• Asynchronous programming, isolates, background processing.
• BGProcessingTask and WorkManager familiarity.
• Ability to work autonomously in a remote, asynchronous environment.
• Excellent written and asynchronous communication.
• Optional: Swift/Android native experience, OSS contributions, local-first architectures.

Responsibilities

• Develop and extend mobile app features to match web capabilities.
• Deep integration with native photo libraries (PHAsset/MediaStore).
• Implement background synchronization, uploads, memory-efficient handling.
• Manage remote vs. local asset states, including cloud interoperability.
• Create smooth, native-like UI components and complex photo grids.
• Optimize startup time, scrolling, and memory usage.
• Assist in crash reporting, ANR diagnosis, and production stability.
• Collaborate on architecture and UI design with the core team.
• Review code and contribute to open-source projects where applicable.

About The Role

We are looking for a talented mobile developer with comprehensive knowledge of both native and cross-platform mobile development. Our mobile applications for iOS and Android are developed using Flutter, and this role offers a significant opportunity to influence our product directly. You will be responsible for delivering features that reach a large user base, tackling complex challenges such as photo library integration, background synchronization, performance tuning, and utilizing native platform APIs. Your work will contribute to enhancing the functionality and performance of our mobile apps, ensuring a smooth and intuitive user experience.

Qualifications

• Proven experience with Flutter and Dart, including shipped production apps
• Strong understanding of mobile platform internals on iOS and/or Android
• Experience with native photo/media APIs such as PHAsset (iOS) and MediaStore (Android)
• Familiarity with asynchronous programming, isolates, and background processing patterns
• Experience with native background APIs like BGProcessingTask and WorkManager
• Ability to work autonomously in a remote, asynchronous environment
• Excellent written and asynchronous communication skills
• Optional: native Swift or Android development experience, open source contributions, knowledge of local-first architectures, or media application background
