Job summary

The Washington Post is seeking an experienced Mobile Software Engineer to drive the technical evolution of our flagship mobile apps. You will focus on core architecture, performance, modularity, and cross‑cutting platform systems used by millions of daily readers.

Design patterns, abstractions, and testing standards will be your tools as you collaborate with product, backend, and feature teams to deliver reliable, scalable mobile experiences while aligning with privacy and platform policies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS or related field.
• 3+ years of professional mobile engineering experience.
• Strong proficiency in Swift/iOS; familiarity with Android or Kotlin Multiplatform.
• Expertise in architectural paradigms (MVVM, Clean Architecture, MVI) and design patterns.
• Proven track record diagnosing performance issues (concurrency, memory leaks, frame drops).

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain core mobile architecture patterns and frameworks.
• Drive app-wide initiatives to optimize startup times and memory usage.
• Establish API contracts, networking patterns, and caching strategies.
• Lead architectural discussions, RFCs, and code reviews.
• Collaborate with product, backend, and feature teams to ensure quality.
