Job description

GDX Development stands shoulder to shoulder with our clients, supporting them through some of the most unique and high‑paced national security challenges. We take great pride in building modern software that fuses sensor, system, and team data into an Adaptive Mission Surface (AMS) at the tactical edge. Built on a Modular Open Systems Approach (MOSA), our platform rapidly ingests external data feeds and enables operators to configure their own mission picture in real time. Critical mission data flows into two connected, intuitive products that offer clients best‑in‑class user experiences at the tactical edge.

That’s where you come in!

The Mobile Application Developer will help ensure that GDX remains at the forefront of the future of our mobile product. You will work closely with a team that understands the mission, hear directly from our clients about the workflows that matter most, and serve in a foundational role developing an application designed to protect those operating in highly complex environments.

What This Position Owns
  • Mobile feature delivery: Translate approved requirements into well-scoped mobile features, including technical approach, implementation, testing, release readiness, and iteration based on user feedback.
  • React Native application development: Build and maintain production-quality code, reusable components, navigation flows, state management, and mobile-specific behaviors that are clean, maintainable, and performant.
  • User experience consistency: Establish and improve consistent visual, interaction, and usability patterns across GDX’s mobile experience while contributing to shared UI/UX standards for web products.
  • Mapping and geospatial functionality: Implement and support mapping features, data presentation, and user interactions using Mapbox and related geospatial capabilities.
  • Systems integrations: Build and maintain dependable integrations with internal systems, third‑party services, and APIs. Identify integration risks early and partner with the appropriate technical owners to resolve them.
  • Product collaboration: Participate actively in discovery, design reviews, prototyping, estimation, and feature trade‑off discussions with product, engineering, and leadership.
  • Quality and reliability: Validate work before release, investigate defects, protect usability and performance, and contribute to a practical, disciplined release process.
Performance Expectations
  • Own work to completion: Drive assigned priorities forward without waiting for step‑by‑step direction. Escalate decisions, risks, dependencies, or changes in scope early.
  • Deliver predictably: Break work into understandable increments, provide realistic estimates, communicate progress regularly, and meet agreed‑upon delivery commitments.
  • Build for the next developer: Write clear, maintainable code and document key technical decisions, dependencies, integrations, and operational considerations.
  • Make the product easier to use: Apply strong UI/UX judgment to reduce ambiguity, improve user flows, and create a clean, coherent interface appropriate for field use.
  • Collaborate with discipline: Receive feedback constructively, provide practical technical input, and help leadership understand effort, trade‑offs, and release implications.
  • Work securely and responsibly: Follow established development, data‑handling, access, and release practices appropriate for sensitive or regulated customer environments.
Required Qualifications
  • Proven experience developing, releasing, and maintaining mobile applications using React Native.
  • Demonstrated ability to create attractive, intuitive, and coherent mobile user interfaces and user experiences.
  • Working proficiency in developing or extending native React Native modules when features require platform-level capabilities.
  • Hands‑on experience with mapping or geospatial applications, particularly Mapbox.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities, communicate clearly, and deliver independently in a remote work environment.
Preferred Experience
  • Experience developing software for government, defense, or similarly mission‑critical end users.
  • Familiarity with web application development and modern front‑end frameworks.
  • Experience with GIS tools, additional mapping platforms, or data‑rich geospatial interfaces.
  • Understanding of secure development practices for sensitive, regulated, or controlled environments.
  • Based in or near the Tampa Bay area for periodic in‑person collaboration.
