Job summary

BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee (BCBST) is hiring a React Native Mobile App Developer for the Mobile Solutions team. You will design, build, and support customer-facing enterprise mobile applications across iOS and Android using React Native, writing clean JavaScript/TypeScript and optimizing performance.

You will collaborate with product, design, and backend teams, publish apps to the App Store and Google Play, and engage in CI/CD practices.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
  • 1 year experience with information technology concepts and standards.
  • 3 years systems and programming experience.
  • 1 year expert working knowledge of at least one programming language used at BCBST.

Responsibilities

  • Define system scope and objectives through research and fact-finding to design, develop, modify, or integrate complex information systems.
  • Devises or modifies application systems and procedures to optimize functional requirements including capacity, operating time, response time, and form of desired results.
  • Designs, codes, tests, debugs, and documents programs, subroutines, and scripts.
  • May serve project roles such as project lead or technical lead for small to medium efforts.
  • Maintains technical skill set across languages, databases, platforms, OS, and networks.
  • Responds to system failures and performance events to reduce downtime.
  • Provides guidance and training to less-experienced analysts/programmers.

Job description

We are hiring a React Native Mobile App Developer on our Mobile Solutions team at BCBST!

In this role, you will design, build, and support customer-facing enterprise mobile applications that power critical user experiences across iOS and Android platforms. You’ll work in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment, partnering with product, design, and backend teams to deliver scalable and high-performing solutions using React Native. This role requires a hands-on engineer who can write clean, maintainable JavaScript/TypeScript code, develop reusable components, and optimize application performance across devices. You’ll troubleshoot complex issues in distributed systems, integrate APIs and third-party services, and contribute to engineering best practices through code reviews and continuous improvement.

To be successful in this role, in addition to the core job requirements, you’ll bring strong cross-platform mobile development expertise, a deep understanding of React architecture and state management, and a proactive, problem-solving mindset. You will be a strong candidate for this role if you have experience publishing apps to both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, working with native integrations such as push notifications, biometrics, and device APIs, and using tools like Postman or Fiddler for API debugging. Experience with CI/CD pipelines, native mobile development (Swift, Kotlin, or Java), and a passion for staying current with emerging mobile technologies will set you apart.

Note:

  • This is a remote, work-from-home position aligned to Eastern working hours.
  • This is remote, work-from-home position, but the final round of interviews will take place on-site in our Chattanooga, TN office.
  • This role includes an on-call rotation of 1 week every 6-7 weeks.
  • Sponsorship is not available for this role.

  • Maintains technical skill set for software languages, databases, platforms, operating systems, utilities and networks needed to support work assignments.
  • Responds to system failures and performance events by taking appropriate measures to reduce system downtime and eliminate recurrence of problems.
  • Regularly provides guidance and training to less-experienced analysts/programmers.

Job Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or equivalent work experience required. Equivalent years of experience are determined as one year of technical experience for every year of college requested.

Experience

  • 1 year - Experience with information technology concepts, application development methodology, terminology, and standards required
  • 3 years - Systems and programming experience required
  • 1 year - Expert working knowledge of at least one programming language in use at BCBST.

  • Proven analysis, design, and coding skills, and demonstrated success in leading large and complex projects
