Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD) is seeking a Substitute Teacher to provide continuity in learning during the regular teacher’s absence at Title 1a schools in Madison, WI.
The role involves following lesson plans, using recommended materials, and applying diverse teaching methods to engage students and maintain a positive classroom environment. Onboarding may include a paid substitute training for licensing and the ability to pick up assignments.
$200 - 7+ days in a monthly pay period at any of our Title 1a schools.
Under the supervision of a building principal, the MMSD Substitute Teacher provides students with continuity in the learning process by implementing classroom instruction during the regular teacher’s absence. Duties include quickly building connections, managing classroom behavior, interpreting and following lesson plans, and creating reports to inform the permanent teacher of student success.

Data Proficiency: Use provided tools and resources (computer, smartboard, software) and data beyond standardized assessments to diagnose learning needs and differentiate instruction.
Team Collaboration: Collaborate with peers to reflect on student achievement and teacher practice data to improve instruction.
Student & Family Engagement: Initiate and build relationships with students and families, understanding unique family characteristics and engaging them as partners.
Resilience & Results Orientation: Be on time, dependable, and able to adapt to change; find challenges exciting and persist in the face of challenges.
Self‑Awareness & Growth Mindset: Reflect on strengths and growth areas regularly and seek mentors to improve.
