Job summary

AECOM is seeking a part-time, field-focused Geophysicist to support the MMRP program across the United States. You will collect geophysical data, perform EMI and AGC surveys, and mentor junior geophysicists while designing investigation plans and MR‑QAPP documents.

Responsibilities include leading field crews, coordinating with project teams, and maintaining high data quality under CERCLA/RCRA guidelines. Housing and per diem are provided for field assignments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in geophysics, geology or related field with at least 6 years of relevant experience.
• Valid U.S. Driver's License; able to pass background check.
• Preferred: 10+ years of directly related munitions response geophysical experience or education.

Responsibilities

• Manage geophysical data acquisition by field geophysicists using EMI instruments.
• Perform digital geophysical mapping surveys and AGC mapping surveys.
• Mentor and provide technical guidance to staff.
• Design geophysical investigation plans for munitions response under CERCLA/RCRA.
• Prepare planning documents such as MR-QAPP.
• This role involves 100% field work with housing and per diem.

MMRP AGC Geophysicist

AECOM is seeking candidates for a rewarding, part-time variable opportunity to support our successful military munitions response program (MMRP) team at field sites across the United States. AECOM is a clear MMRP leader in delivering the largest volume and best-in-class overall munition services. As an MMRP Advanced Geophysical Classification (AGC) Geophysicist, you will serve as a part of AECOM's AGC program and support our program in pursuing, planning, and delivering munitions response-related projects to our DoD, State, and commercial clients. As an AGC Geophysicist, you will work directly with Project and QC Geophysicists to complete project deliverables by collecting standard digital geophysical mapping survey data and advanced electromagnetic induction (EMI) survey data to identify and classify subsurface anomalies potentially related to munitions and explosives of concern. AECOM seeks an individual with MMRP geophysical data acquisition experience who possesses an independent ability to problem-solve, who can provide technically superior, cost-effective solutions for our customers, and who can lead, manage, and train junior-level field geophysicists. This position involves a great deal of schedule flexibility as a part-time variable employee - you work when project field work is available with the flexibility for extended time off as project schedules allow.

Responsibilities will include, but may not be limited to the following:

• Manage and monitor geophysical data acquisition by field geophysicists utilizing geophysical systems including advanced electromagnetic induction (EMI) instruments
• Perform geophysical data collection for traditional digital geophysical mapping surveys and AGC mapping surveys
• Serve as a mentor and provide technical guidance and expertise to practice area professional staff
• Design and implement geophysical investigation plans for munitions response remedial investigations and removal actions under CERCLA and RCRA regulatory programs
• Utilize various types of geophysical instruments and ancillary components including high-precision global navigation satellite systems, inertial motion sensors, LiDAR positioning systems, and software to control and integrate the geophysical system components
• Prepare planning documents such as Munitions Response Quality Assurance Project Plans (MR-QAPP)
• This position involves 100% field work with additional housing and meal per diem allowance.

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in geophysics, geology or closely related field, plus 6 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
• Valid U.S. Driver's License. Subject to motor vehicle records check.
• Ability to pass a background check

Preferred Qualifications

• 10+ years of directly related munitions response geophysical experience and/or education
• Ability to perform, and oversee quality procedures for advanced EMI instrument data acquisition
• Experience with one-pass AGC data acquisition (e.g., APEX, MetalMapper 2x2, TEMSENSE, UltraTEM)
• Experience with the theoretical and practical aspects of detecting and selecting a wide range of targets of interest and non-targets of interest
• Familiarity with all current MMRP guidance for conducting munitions response DGM and AGC surveys and delivering high-quality timely data to our clients
• Strong leadership and communication skills (verbal and written); good organizational ability; compatibility with other workers and demonstrated ability to carry out independent original scientific thinking
