Job summary

Gray Media's KSNB/KOLN-TV local newsroom in Hastings seeks a digital-first journalist to command both field and screen. You will join a multi-platform newsroom, assisting on our OTT streaming desk, reporting live, and anchoring as needed.

You will report enterprise stories across Central Nebraska, write and edit under deadline, and push content to mobile, web, and social feeds. A journalism degree and newsroom experience are required; ENPS/Edius familiarity is a plus.

Qualifications

• College degree in journalism or equivalent professional experience.
• Experience shooting, writing, and editing on deadline.
• Strong understanding of OTT platforms and connected-TV audiences.

Responsibilities

• Anchor on the OTT streaming desk for live coverage and breaking news.
• Fill-in anchor for scheduled newscasts with tight, engaging copy.
• Enterprise reporting across Central Nebraska with strong visuals.

Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

What You’ll Do:

• Anchor on the OTT streaming desk: Assist our live digital desk for streaming newscasts, breaking news cut-ins, and extended deep-dive coverage tailored specifically for OTT platforms and connected TV apps.
• Step behind the broadcast desk: Serve as a versatile fill-in anchor for scheduled linear newscasts, writing conversational copy and collaborating with producers to execute tight, engaging broadcasts.
• Own enterprise reporting: Pitch, shoot, write, and edit high-impact local stories across Central Nebraska that prioritize truth, community context, and strong character-driven visuals.
• Lead digital-first publishing: Push breaking updates, live streams, and custom video content straight to mobile, web, and social feeds before the evening broadcast even airs.
• Master modern newsroom tools: Shoot on ENG gear and edit under tight deadlines using industry workflows like ENPS and Edius without sacrificing speed or accuracy.
• Engage the community: Build trusted sources across Hastings and surrounding towns, representing Local4 at community events and listening directly to our viewers

Qualifications/Requirements:

What You Bring:

• Multi-platform screen presence: Comfort and charisma whether anchoring live on a streaming desk, seated at a traditional anchor set, or going live from the field on a smartphone.
• Newsroom experience: College degree in journalism (or equivalent professional experience) with proven newsroom chops in shooting, writing, and editing on deadline.
• Streaming and digital savvy: An intuitive understanding of what hooks digital audiences on OTT channels, connected TVs, and social video platforms.
• Technical fluency: Hands-on operational experience with camera gear, non-linear editing (Edius), and newsroom production software (ENPS).
• Speed and composure: The ability to go live on the fly during breaking news, synthesize fast-moving facts, and keep viewers informed with clarity and calm.
• Community connection: A collaborative attitude, strong ethics, and genuine curiosity about the people and stories of Central Nebraska.
• Valid driver's license: Clean driving record and the flexibility required for the daily rhythm of breaking news.
