Job summary

Gray Media, Portland, Oregon's leading news group, seeks an MMJ/Reporter for FOX 12 Oregon. The top candidate will be a dynamic storyteller who gathers video, writes for broadcast and web, and contributes across platforms.

Ideal candidates have journalism degree and at least two years of local newsroom reporting experience, with ability to shoot/edit and work long hours, including overnights and weekends.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of two years' experience as a reporter/MMJ in a local newsroom.
  • Must be able to work long hours, weekends, overnights for breaking news.
  • Able to carry 35+ pounds of gear and shoot/edit content.
  • Driver's license with clean driving record required.
  • Knowledge of ENPS and EDIUS preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Shoot, write, and edit stories.
  • Appear on-air and coordinate live shots.
  • Develop sources within the community for unique insights.
  • Pitch leadable and original story ideas daily.
  • Verify tips via email or social media with strong research.
  • Work with immediacy and sound news judgment in a team.
  • Potential to fill-in anchor when needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Summary/Description:

Portland, Oregon's #1 news station, FOX 12, has an immediate opening for an MMJ/Reporter. The top candidate will be a dynamic, high-level storyteller who gathers news for broadcast, web, and other platforms of the future.

Duties/Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
  • Shoot, write, and edit stories
  • Appear on-air and coordinate live shots
  • Develop sources within the community to gain unique "Only On" insight and reports on important and impactful issues
  • Pitch leadable and/or original story ideas daily
  • Strong research skills, ability to employ critical thinking skills to dig and go "beyond the press release" and/or confirm incoming news tips via email or social media
  • Work with a sense of immediacy and in a team while exhibiting sound news judgment and ethics
  • Potential and drive to fill-in anchor, when needed
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism or related field preferred
  • Minimum of two years' experience as a reporter/MMJ in a local newsroom
  • Ability to work long hours/overtime, weekends, overnights as needed for breaking news and specialized coverage
  • Must be able to carry 35+ pounds of gear and be experienced in shooting and editing unique content
  • This position requires the employee to be able to drive for business needs. A valid driver's license and clean driving record (MVR) are required
  • Knowledge of ENPS newsroom systems and Edius editing systems is preferable
