Position Summary

The MLW Mobile Phlebotomist 1 works independently, traveling to different customer locations to obtain blood specimens, following established protocols and methods. Responsibilities include unpacking, registering, receiving specimens, preparing them for processing, correcting discrepancies, and proper preservation. Acts as a backup to the in-house team and handles customer service tasks.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Adheres to hospital performance standards, policies, and behaviors.
  • Obtains blood specimens using varied techniques across all age groups where applicable.
  • Proficient in ROVER functionality for specific clients and in-house hospital phlebotomy.
  • Responsible for transporting specimens from field locations and timely delivery to the hospital.
  • Removes specimens from transport bags, verifies identifiers, and follows up on discrepancies.
  • Enters test orders into HIS, prioritizes workload for timely processing.
  • Labels and disseminates specimens to the proper laboratory departments.
  • Follows client-specific registration and accessioning procedures.
  • Responds to all incoming outreach calls promptly and efficiently.
  • Documents outreach issues in HIS for follow-up and attends daily huddles.
  • Reviews the Specimen Master Log for accuracy.
  • Prepares supplies for outreach clients and documents quantities.
  • Submits daily mileage reports.
  • Performs STAT and scheduled specimen pickups and dispatches courier services.
  • Follows department and hospital policies and completes competency requirements.
  • Maintains a clean, organized, and safe work environment, using universal precautions.
  • Responds to client inquiries timely.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Education & Experience Requirements
  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Phlebotomy Certification preferred.
  • One-year phlebotomy experience preferred.
  • Valid NYS driver’s license and proof of auto insurance required.
  • Typing speed of 35 words per minute.
  • Experience in healthcare and medical terminology preferred.
  • Basic office and computer skills; knowledge of EPIC BEAKER (HIS) a plus.

Includes neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, geriatric, and special needs populations, among others.

Salary Range: $39,000 - $58,500 (full-time equivalent)
