Job summary

Sweeny Community Hospital seeks an MLT/MLS General Supervisor to oversee quality control, QC assessment, and management including IQCP. You will review QC programs, troubleshoot analyzers, and ensure accurate reporting of test results through LIS and manual workflows.

This role requires strong leadership, policy editing, and ongoing competency development. Preferred MLS/BS degree and MLS/MLT ASCP certification, with the ability to work independently in a PRN/full-time capacity across shifts.

Essential Functions:

MLT/MLS General Supervisor
  • The general oversight of the laboratory’s quality control, assessment, and management including IQCP, if required.
  • Review all quality control programs including Levy-Jennings charts, when assigned. Troubleshoots analyzers and documents on corresponding logs.
  • Collates QC review data for director review on monthly basis, when assigned.
  • Maintains liaison with lab manager on all issues.
  • The review of testing results and reports to the medical staff, assuring timely and accurate reporting of results through automated (LIS), and manual procedures.
  • Ensures patient test results are not reported until all corrective action has been taken and the test system is functioning properly.
  • The editing of policy and procedure manuals, presenting with new P&P and suggested revisions to the current for review, when assigned.
  • The evaluation of new tests in order to provide for better patient care through advances in technology and research.
  • Ensures testing systems provide quality laboratory services for pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic phases of testing.
  • Establishes the acceptable level of analytic performance and ensures these levels are maintained throughout the testing process.
  • Ensures that policies and procedures are followed when conducting pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical phases of testing to verify that they maintain competency to process specimens, perform test procedures, report test results promptly and proficiently, and, whenever necessary, identify needs for continuing education to improve skills.
  • To resolve technical problems and ensures remedial actions are taken whenever test systems deviate from the laboratory’s established performance specifications. Calibrates and reviews calibrations, establishes new lot number statistics and performs bi-annual linearities as applicable, if assigned.
  • Performs maintenance on, including logs and troubleshooting activities for all analyzers as assigned. Helps to resolve technical problems and ensures remedial actions are taken whenever test systems deviate from the laboratory’s established performance specifications.
  • Completes proficiency testing as assigned.
  • Completes duties as assigned.
  • Set up of all cultures for micro, performing gram stains as needed.
  • Maintains competency and performs testing in all departments of the lab, as assigned.
  • Completes the competency performance evaluation and performs all testing as assigned and requested.
Work Environment:

This job will require exposure to all bodily fluids, load noises, biological hazards. Also, routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, fax machines, and other equipment as needed.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Duties regularly require standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, pushing, pulling and crouching as well as lifting and/or moving up to 50 lbs.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a Full-time/PRN position, and core hours of work are as assigned on the schedule. There are different rotations and requirements, for each shift. This requires any shift as assigned to be worked.

TRAVEL

Occasional travel is expected for this position, as needed.

Required Education, Experience and License

MLT- Associate’s Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology, MLT ASCP or equivalent

Preferred Education, Experience and License

MLS- Bachelors’ Degree, MLS ASCP or equivalent

Additional Eligibility Qualifications:

Ability to work alone and make critical decisions, for continuum of patient care.
