  • Responsible for specimen processing, test performance, result reporting, and instrument maintenance/calibration.
  • Adheres to lab procedures for specimen handling and testing, and follows all regulatory requirements.
  • May participate as a member of the QI team and communicates via email to stay updated.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Usual working space is a well-ventilated area. Requires standing, walking, turning, bending, stooping, and lifting. Clear speech to communicate effectively with customers (e.g. patients, families, and other team members). Fine and gross motor skills. Environment may be stressful at times, therefore ability to work under stressful conditions is necessary. Lifting up to 50 lbs may be required, anything over 50 lbs should be a team lift or with the use of a lifting aid. Also subject to bloodborne pathogens at all times in patient care. May have occasional exposure to radiation during radiology procedures and to dangerous chemicals (cleaning and disinfecting agents).

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS & KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Performs quality laboratory testing by monitoring testing equipment and systems for acceptable analytical performance.
  • Provides directions for non-certified staff performing waived testing.
  • Supervises laboratory students.
  • Ensures corrective actions are taken prior to patient test results being reported.
  • Provides orientation of testing personnel responsible for specimen processing, test performance, reporting of test result and for instrument maintenance and calibration of test systems at defined intervals.
  • Follow the laboratory’s procedures for specimen handling, processing, and testing.
  • Performs proficiency testing specimens as assigned.
  • Adhere to laboratory’s quality control policies, document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural when test systems are not within the lab’s acceptable level of performance.
  • Must identify problems that may adversely affect test results, and either must correct the problems immediately or notify lab manager.
  • Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the lab’s established performance specifications.
  • Responsible for assuring that services are provided in a manner that is consistent with Ohio County Healthcare policies and procedures and the Purpose, Vision, and Values.
