Job summary

Rainmaker seeks its first dedicated Machine Learning Researcher to define how ML is used across the company, identify high-value problems, and build models that can be operationalized with engineers and domain experts.

You will work on forecasting supercooled liquid water, cloud-seeding opportunities, and integrating diverse observations to improve atmospheric state estimates and decision-making.

Qualifications

• Exceptional ability in machine learning research and engineering.
• Strong command of modern ML methods and practical experience training/evaluating models.
• Proficiency in Python and ML frameworks (PyTorch/JAX).
• Ability to turn ambiguous problems into measurable targets and credible baselines.
• Experience working with noisy, sparse, multimodal data.

Responsibilities

• Audit ML opportunities and prioritize by operational value and data readiness.
• Deliver an operational model or prototype within three months.
• Build models for forecasting, nowcasting, retrievals, and state estimation.
• Collaborate with meteorologists and engineers to define targets and priors.
• Write research-grade software for productionization.
