Job summary

The Allen Institute seeks a Research Intern in Machine Learning for Neuroscience for a 12-month, part-time position starting late fall 2026. Qualifications

• Enrolled in a master’s or PhD program and available to start in late Oct/Nov 2026.
• Strong Python scientific computing experience (NumPy, SciPy, Pandas).
• Able to commit to a one-year term and work onsite at least one day per week.

Responsibilities

• Characterize coordinated activity across two neural populations encoding forelimb force.
• Develop and evaluate ML and latent-variable models to partition shared vs population-specific covariance.
• Relate neural activity to behavioral variables using regression and classification with cross-validation.
• Extend analyses to EMG and synchronized video, and to day-to-day learning changes.
• Produce documented Python code and contribute to figures and manuscripts.
• Communicate results to mentoring scientists and the team.
