Job summary

The Office of the Ohio Public Defender is seeking three Mitigation Investigation Specialists in the Mitigation and Investigation Department to conduct bio-psycho-social field investigations and complex fact investigations for capital and non-capital cases.

You will work with a team of investigators, travel across Ohio (and occasionally out of state), interview clients, witnesses, and experts, and prepare detailed reports and timelines for trial and appellate work.

Qualifications

• 30 mos. exp. conducting mitigation or criminal fact investigations.
• Undergraduate core program in behavioral sciences with 6 mos. exp. in criminal investigations.
• Equivalent of Minimum Class Qualification For Employment noted in job posting.

Responsibilities

• Locate, contact, and interview witnesses and others to obtain information pertaining to the case.
• Conduct lengthy interviews with clients and family, education, medical, mental health, legal and agency personnel.
• Gather and analyze records to provide insights into the client’s bio-psycho-social history.
• Prepare complex reports of interviews and findings and timelines for trial/appellate use.
• Lead investigations and assist in complex criminal investigations at trial/post-trial levels.
