Job summary

Goodwill of Central Illinois is seeking a Mission Training Instructor to deliver digital literacy instruction and career coaching from our Peoria office. The role covers full participant support, from outreach to job placement, with both in-person and virtual delivery and ongoing coaching.

Job description

This is a full-time M-F role based out of our corporate office in Peoria, IL. The pay range is $22-$23/hr., and includes full benefits (below).

The Mission Training Instructor provides comprehensive digital literacy instruction and career coaching to adult learners, with a primary focus on bridging the digital divide and facilitating entry into competitive employment. This role is responsible for the full lifecycle of participant support: conducting outreach, identifying and reducing employment barriers, delivering hands‑on technical training, and providing long-term coaching. The Instructor ensures Mission success through data tracking, curriculum adaptation, and the cultivation of community partnerships to support participant placement and retention.

Example Duties and Activities
  • Deliver in-person and virtual instruction focused on essential digital skills, including hardware/software proficiency (Microsoft Office, Google Suite), internet safety, and digital communication.
  • Teach advanced job search literacy, including navigating online application systems, utilizing professional networking platforms (LinkedIn), and leveraging AI or digital tools for resume optimization.
  • Adapt instructional materials and presentation styles to address varying levels of digital experience and diverse learning needs.
  • Develop and update curricula to remain current with emerging technology trends and local workforce demands.
  • Conduct comprehensive participant intakes and assessments to identify specific educational, technical, or personal barriers to employment.
  • Develop individualized success plans and provide ongoing coaching to support participants through course completion and job placement.
  • Facilitate "soft skills" training, including interview preparation, professional etiquette, and workplace problem-solving.
  • Provide direct assistance in the creation of professional resumes, cover letters, and digital portfolios.
  • Lead community outreach initiatives to recruit participants and promote digital literacy services to underserved populations.
  • Establish and maintain professional referral networks with social service agencies, non-profits, and local government entities.
  • Actively engage with local businesses to identify job leads, understand employer needs, and facilitate direct connections for Mission graduates.
  • Maintain rigorous documentation of participant progress, attendance, and outcomes in internal databases.
  • Ensure all data entry and record-keeping comply with agency guidelines, grant requirements, and CARF accreditation standards.
  • Prepare for and participate in audits, monitoring visits, and financial reviews.
  • Monitor classroom environments and digital assets to ensure security and effective facility management.

  • Program Management (Training) - Skilled at organizing, delivering, and evaluating virtual and in-person training programs. Demonstrates creativity in instructional design and ensures objectives are met. Knowledge of adult learning principles and instructional design. Capable of creating effective, engaging, and interactive learning materials.
  • Coaching & Facilitation - Demonstrated ability to mentor adult learners, foster a positive learning environment, and motivate individuals facing significant employment challenges.
  • Technical & Digital Knowledge - Proficient in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and AI tools, with the ability to simplify complex technical concepts for adult learners. Proficient in navigating digital employment landscapes, including Applicant Tracking Systems, LinkedIn, and virtual interview platforms. Capable of managing Learning Management Systems (LMS) and troubleshooting hardware or connectivity issues to maintain a seamless classroom environment.
  • Building Collaborative Relationships - Maintains professional networks with social service providers, employers, and community partners. Provides and receives feedback to improve programs and participant outcomes.
  • Communication Skills - Articulates thoughts and expresses ideas effectively using oral, written, visual, and non-verbal communication skills, as well as listening skills to comprehend others' needs. Delivers information in person, in writing, and in a digital world.
  • Teamwork - Works well with others and makes valued contributions in a team setting in order to achieve the required goals and outcomes. Contributes to creating a positive work environment that promotes productivity, mentoring, teamwork, and partnership.
  • Adaptability - Adjusts priorities quickly in response to frequently changing circumstances while maintaining a positive attitude. Continually assesses tasks and responds to those requiring extra attention. Foresees and seeks to avoid crisis management.
Other Requirements
  • Background Screening - All candidates must pass a pre-employment background check.
  • Driving - Must have a valid driver's license, up-to-date auto insurance, and a good driving record.
Employment Status
  • This position is supported by grant funding and is considered at-will employment. While the organization anticipates the role will continue long term, continuation of the position is dependent upon the availability and renewal of grant funding.
