Job summary

Northrop Grumman is seeking a Lead Mission Operations Engineer for our Gilbert, AZ campus. This full-time role requires active SCI clearance, on-site work, and travel about 20% for rehearsals and launches.

The successful candidate will work with NGSS satellite programs, develop procedures, and support mission readiness activities. The position involves engineering the operational lifecycle from requirements to in-flight support, with collaboration across systems engineers and program milestones.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related discipline and 8 years’ experience; 6 years with Masters; 0 years with PhD.
  • Requires an active Top-Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) clearance at time of application.
  • Experience with at least one spacecraft/subsystem and system engineering experience; writing technical documents for customers.

Responsibilities

  • Test on orbit operational products using simulators and resolve discrepancies.

The Mission Operations Development group is looking for a Lead Mission Operations Engineer to join a growing team. This position is for a full time technical role located on our Gilbert, AZ campus.

The Successful Candidate Will Be Expected To
  • Provide mission operations support to NGSS Satellite programs.
  • Lead on orbit script and procedure development effort based off of operational procedures
  • Testing on orbit operational products using simulators and resolve discrepancies.
  • Lead development and test command procedures, telemetry pages, and other products derived from vendor provided documentation.
  • Make modifications to existing operations procedures to incorporate lessons learned from in-flight performance. Develop new procedures as required.
  • Support system development activities such as requirements management, architecture development, integration and test and formal program milestones.
  • Work with systems engineers to develop operational documentation for use during on-orbit checkout and commissioning of satellites.
  • Participate in mission readiness activities including mission rehearsals, mission timeline development, and post launch test development.
  • Participate in on orbit anomaly resolution efforts.
  • Provide status reporting through both the functional and program reporting branches.
  • Provide additional support to multiple programs in the same product line.
  • Maintain standards associated with the established Integrated/Developmental Operations functional group processes.
  • Support internal and external customer meetings through proficient verbal and documented (MS PowerPoint, MS Word, MS Excel) communications.
  • May require shift work and travel ~ 20% of the time for simulation/rehearsal and launch support.
  • Candidate will require a polygraph interview to participate in rehearsals and launch activities.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or related discipline and 8 years’ experience; 6 years with Masters; 0 years with PhD Prior experience conducting on-orbit mission operations or resolving satellite/ground system anomalies.
  • Requires an active Top-Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) clearance at time of application.
  • Experience with at least one S/C Subsystem (ADCS/GNC, command and data handling, communications, power, Thermal, flight software, orbital planning and dynamics, etc.)
  • System engineering experience or significant classwork in system engineering or system design
  • Experience writing technical documents for internal or external customers
  • Outstanding verbal and written communications skills, including ability to make persuasive presentations to external customers at milestone reviews.
  • Experience with or writing of PERL script.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to work within a group of diversified individuals with varying backgrounds to achieve mission success. Support of readiness activities to include; Mission Readiness Tests (MRTs), Mission Rehearsals (MRs), Day In The Life (DITL) and daily operations testing.
  • Experience with spacecraft launch campaigns
  • Experience with satellite ground systems and simulators
  • Familiarity with training and certification programs for space system operators
  • Experience working on government systems and/or government process environment

Primary Level Salary Range: $122,800.00 - $184,200.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
