Job summary

Indian Health Service seeks a Clinical Laboratory Scientist to deliver vital diagnostic testing for American Indian communities. You will perform routine and specialized tests across chemistry, microbiology, hematology, molecular diagnostics, immunology, and immunohematology, reporting results and troubleshooting issues.

Responsibilities include quality control, specimen handling, regulatory compliance, and supporting staff with procedure development and inventory management in a federal setting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in clinical laboratory science/medical technology or NAACLS-accredited program.
• One year of specialized experience at GS-07 level or higher is typical for advancement.
• Strong knowledge of laboratory safety, biosafety, and accreditation requirements.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine and specialized laboratory testing across chemistry, microbiology, hematology, molecular diagnostics, immunology, and immunohematology.
• Collect, prepare, and evaluate patient specimens with proper handling and documentation.
• Conduct quality control, proficiency testing, calibration, maintenance and troubleshooting of instruments.
• Provide guidance and support to laboratory staff and participate in inventory management and process improvement.
