Job summary

Outpost in Playa Vista, California, seeks a Senior Mission Design Engineer to own flight safety for reentry missions and coordinate with FAA AST. You will work with GNC, aerothermal, structures, and operations engineers to define mission design and safety criteria.

You will develop 3-DOF/6-DOF trajectory simulations, run Monte Carlo analyses, and build the analysis toolchain for verification and data products, while leading discussions on license applications and NOTAMs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, physics, or related field.
• 5+ years in trajectory analysis, GNC, mission design, or flight safety for launch/reentry vehicles or spacecraft.
• Experience with atmospheric trajectory simulations and Monte Carlo dispersion analyses.
• Strong knowledge of flight mechanics, orbital mechanics, and safety requirements (FAA Part 450/417).
• Proficiency in Python, MATLAB, or C/C++ for simulations and data analysis.

Responsibilities

• Own flight safety analysis for Outpost reentry missions per 14 CFR Part 450.
• Develop and maintain 3-DOF and 6-DOF trajectory simulations.
• Define deorbit targeting, entry corridors, recovery zones, and support NOTAMs/NOTMARs.
• Lead FAA license application discussions and safety criteria.
• Build and automate the analysis toolchain and data products.
