Job summary

Southland Industries is seeking a seasoned Superintendent to lead the field for large, complex projects in Phoenix. You will own field strategy, safety, quality, and schedule performance while coordinating multi-trade teams and subcontractors.

You will guide constructability planning, drive look-ahead planning, manage field documentation, and ensure successful turnover. The role requires strong leadership, safety discipline, and hands-on project delivery expertise.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; construction management, engineering or related degree or coursework preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of construction field leadership experience, preferably with a general contractor, prime integrator or complex trade contractor.
  • OSHA 30 certification required.
  • Industrial construction and modular construction experience strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead overall field strategy and daily jobsite operations, including logistics, staffing and manpower planning, deliveries, access, inspections, productivity, work sequencing and site-wide coordination.
  • Own field execution of the project schedule, including milestones, short-interval and look-ahead plans, trade sequencing, constraints, handoffs and recovery plans; coordinate with CPM schedules.
  • Lead jobsite safety expectations and ensure proactive planning, regulatory compliance, accountability, hazard correction and incident-prevention actions.
  • Lead multi-trade subcontractor coordination with attention to MEP systems, interfaces, equipment access, startup, commissioning and turnover.
  • Oversee field quality management, including acceptance planning, inspections, deficiency tracking, rework prevention, punch list and documentation.
  • Partner during preconstruction and lead constructability and field-planning reviews; identify and resolve scope gaps and sequencing risks.
  • Lead, coach and develop assistant superintendents and field team; serve as senior field representative with project stakeholders.

Position Summary

The Superintendent is the senior field leader responsible for safe, coordinated, high-quality and timely execution on large, complex or high-risk construction projects. This role owns field strategy, jobsite safety, quality, schedule performance, subcontractor coordination, field team leadership and constructability planning and drives successful delivery from preconstruction through commissioning and closeout.

Position Details
  • Lead overall field strategy and daily jobsite operations, including logistics, staffing and manpower planning, deliveries, access, inspections, productivity, work sequencing and site-wide coordination.
  • Own field execution of the project schedule, including milestones, short-interval and look-ahead plans, trade sequencing, constraints, handoffs and recovery plans; coordinate the Prime Integrator's Takt Schedule and MOD Plan with the general contractor's CPM schedule.
  • Lead jobsite safety expectations and ensure proactive planning, regulatory compliance, accountability, hazard correction and incident-prevention actions are consistently applied.
  • Lead multi-trade subcontractor coordination with particular attention to MEP systems, architectural and structural interfaces, equipment access, inspections, startup, commissioning and turnover.
  • Oversee field quality management, including acceptance planning, first-work-in-place reviews, inspections, deficiency tracking, rework prevention, punch list completion and quality documentation.
  • Partner during preconstruction and lead constructability and field-planning reviews; identify and resolve scope gaps, system-interface issues, procurement constraints, access concerns and sequencing risks.
  • Lead, coach and develop assistant superintendents, area superintendents, foremen, field engineers and other field team members; serve as the senior field representative with project stakeholders.
  • Ensure complete and accurate field documentation and lead or oversee commissioning, testing, system startup, turnover, owner training, closeout documentation and final completion.
  • Make independent day-to-day field decisions within contract requirements, approved project plans and delegated authority. Direct field execution and corrective actions, recommends recovery or mitigation plans and partners with the Construction Manager on decisions with material cost, scope, schedule, contractual or client impact.
  • May directly or indirectly lead assistant superintendents, area superintendents, foremen, field engineers and other field team members. Establish performance expectations, provide coaching and development, support staffing decisions and hold internal teams and trade partners accountable for safe and effective execution.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; construction management, engineering or related degree or coursework is preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of construction field leadership experience, preferably with a general contractor, prime integrator or complex trade contractor.
  • OSHA 30 certification required.
  • Industrial construction and modular construction experience strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated success leading large, complex, multi-trade or high-risk data center, manufacturing, mission critical or other technically complex projects.
  • Deep knowledge of construction sequencing, project schedules, contract documents, site logistics, safety, quality, constructability and field productivity.
  • Ability to lead field strategy and subcontractor performance across multiple trades, scopes and project phases.
  • Significant knowledge of MEP coordination, system interfaces, equipment access, startup, commissioning and turnover requirements.
  • Experience with Takt planning, modular planning, CPM schedule integration, pull planning, recovery planning and large-scale project reporting.
  • Strong leadership presence, communication, influence, judgment, accountability and client orientation.
  • Proficiency with construction technology for field documentation, schedule management, model coordination, quality, commissioning and closeout.
  • Regularly visit active construction areas; walk and stand for extended periods; climb stairs and ladders; navigate uneven surfaces and tight quarters; and work safely near construction materials, equipment, noise, dust and changing weather conditions. Ability to wear required personal protective equipment and travel to assigned project locations as required.
  • Up to 50% travel, depending on business needs.
