Mechanical Engineer | Mission-Critical & Data Center Design
About the Opportunity
Are you a Mechanical Engineer looking to advance your career while working on complex, technically challenging projects that support critical infrastructure?
We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join a growing multidisciplinary engineering team specializing in mission-critical facilities and high-performance building systems. This role offers the opportunity to design and analyze mechanical systems where reliability, efficiency, precision, and performance are essential.
You’ll contribute to projects involving HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems while collaborating with experienced engineers across multiple disciplines. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who enjoys solving technical challenges, developing practical design solutions, and expanding their expertise in highly technical building environments.
What You'll Do
- Design and develop HVAC systems for mission-critical facilities, data centers, and other technically complex environments.
- Design plumbing systems, including domestic water, sanitary drainage, venting, and specialty piping.
- Support fire protection system design and coordination, including system controls and performance-based design approaches where applicable.
- Perform heating and cooling load calculations, ventilation calculations, psychrometric analyses, and equipment selection and sizing.
- Conduct engineering calculations and analyses involving duct static pressure, pump head, airflow, and system performance.
- Support computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modeling and analysis to evaluate airflow, temperature distribution, and thermal performance in critical environments.
- Evaluate mechanical system performance, load curtailment strategies, and integrated system operation where required.
- Develop detailed construction drawings, specifications, calculations, and coordinated design documentation using Autodesk Revit.
- Apply applicable building codes, mechanical and plumbing codes, fire protection standards, and industry requirements to engineering designs.
- Coordinate mechanical systems with electrical, structural, architectural, and other engineering disciplines to identify and resolve design conflicts.
- Review design documents, equipment selections, and technical specifications to support accurate, coordinated project deliverables.
- Assist with construction-phase activities, including submittal reviews, requests for information (RFIs), field coordination, and technical design clarifications.
- Participate in quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) reviews to maintain high standards of technical accuracy and design quality.
- Communicate project requirements, technical challenges, design decisions, and schedules with internal teams and external project partners.
- Participate in ongoing technical training and professional development to strengthen engineering capabilities and support career progression.
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
- Approximately 3–7 years of mechanical engineering design experience, preferably within an MEP consulting environment.
- Experience with Autodesk Revit for mechanical design and modeling.
- Working knowledge of HVAC system design, load calculations, ventilation requirements, equipment selection, and mechanical system sizing.
- Familiarity with plumbing design and coordination, including domestic water, sanitary drainage, venting, or specialty piping systems.
- Understanding of applicable building codes, mechanical codes, plumbing codes, and relevant industry standards.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to explain engineering decisions and evaluate technical alternatives.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, coordinated engineering deliverables.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple assignments and project deadlines.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
Preferred Qualifications
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or progress toward obtaining it.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or active pursuit of professional licensure.
- Experience designing mechanical systems for data centers, mission-critical facilities, healthcare, laboratories, pharmaceutical facilities, industrial environments, or other technically demanding markets.
- Familiarity with mechanical design and analysis tools such as TRACE 3D Plus, Pipe-Flo, Bluebeam, and psychrometric analysis software.
- Exposure to CFD modeling tools such as FloEFD, TileFlow, 6Sigma, STAR-CCM+, or similar platforms.
- Experience with construction documentation, equipment submittals, RFIs, field coordination, or construction administration.
- Understanding of hydronic systems, cooling infrastructure, critical-environment HVAC design, and mechanical system performance analysis.
