County Emergency Communications is seeking a Fire Dispatcher to document and manage emergency reports, verify incident locations, and dispatch units across jurisdictions. This role requires strong data entry and radio communication skills and may involve overnight shifts, weekends, and holidays.

The dispatcher will monitor multiple radio channels, coordinate resources, and maintain accurate incident records, while adhering to training requirements and continuing education as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; some agencies provide entry-level instruction.
• Fire dispatch certification or EMS dispatch training may be required for certain assignments.
• Experience in computer systems, maps, and radio communication can be beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Receive and document reports of fires, rescues, alarms, and hazards.
• Verify incident locations, access information, and reported risks.
• Alert stations and dispatch apparatus using approved response assignments.
• Monitor radio channels, unit availability, and incident status.
• Relay information about occupants, hazards, and changing conditions.
• Process requests for additional resources through established procedures.
• Coordinate mutual-aid communications when assigned.
• Record dispatch times, unit movements, and significant incident updates.
