1. GENERAL POSITION INFORMATION
Position Name: Minor Surgery Laboratory Elective Adjunct Instructor
Classification: Part-Time, Non-Benefitted
FTE: Less than 50% time
Work Hours: Variable
Department/Division: Clinical Science/College of Chiropractic
Supervisor: Associate Dean
2. POSITION SUMMARY
This course covers technique instruction and practice of sterile technique and gloving; instrumentation and suturing technique (deep and superficial closures).
Competency or mastery is expected on the following: sterile technique and gloving; anesthetic procedures; interrupted sutures; continuous sutures; mattress sutures; specialty sutures; instrument and hand ties.
3. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Prepares lessons and teaches laboratory procedures based on existing syllabus. 50%
Demonstrates and monitors student practice of minor surgery techniques. 25%
Maintains a safe environment in the laboratory setting. 5%
Instructs students in techniques to improve skills and address more difficult scenarios. 5%
Compiles, administers, and grades examinations. 5%
Creates syllabi and course outline. 5%
Contributes to evaluations of students’ non-cognitive behavior. 2.5%
Maintains expertise in area of instruction. 2.5%

5. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Training: Prior teaching experience preferred
Certifications & Licenses: Degree in medicine, naturopathy, advanced degree in nursing (e.g., nurse practitioner) or Doctor of Chiropractic with clinical experience in minor surgery required.
Experience: Clinical practice which includes minor surgery required.
Required Related Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints; Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems; Ability to access current electronic information.
