Job summary

Qualifications

• BOC-ATC certification required.
• CPR/AED certification required.
• Current state licensure or eligibility required.
• Master’s degree in Athletic Training preferred.
• Spanish language proficiency preferred.

Responsibilities

• Communicate clearly with team physicians, medical leadership, staff and players about health and availability.
• Collaborate with affiliate medical, performance, and coaching staff to affect player availability and performance.
• Monitor health and safety during team travel.
• Perform injury recognition, evaluation, and acute care.
• Provide injury treatment and rehabilitation, movement assessment and therapeutic exercise.
• Maintain medical records per standards using ARMS system.
• Attend Spring Training in West Palm Beach, FL (Feb–Apr 2027).
• Provide field coverage during daily practices and games (Apr–Sept 2027).
• Cover daily practices during off-season performance camps (Oct–Nov 2027).

Position Summary

The Washington Nationals are seeking a Certified Athletic Trainer for a full-time role at a minor league affiliate location for the 2027 season. This is a salaried role with health benefits and additional compensation to account for housing (for non-local candidates) and expenses during team travel. The Minor League Athletic Trainer will work under the supervision of the Minor League Medical Coordinator and Assistant Minor League Medical Coordinator in providing and coordinating player care at their respective affiliate location. Ideal candidates have a strong interest in a career in professional baseball with a desire to further their professional development through team-sponsored continuing education and practical experience.

This position will be based at one of several minor league affiliate locations. Organizational affiliates include Rochester, NY; Harrisburg, PA; Wilmington, DE; Fredericksburg, VA; West Palm Beach, FL.

Primary Responsibilities

• Communicate clearly and consistently with team physicians and medical leadership, affiliate medical and performance staff, coaching staff, front office personnel, and players regarding player health and performance availability.
• Collaborate effectively with affiliate medical, performance, and coaching staff to affect player availability and improve athletic performance.
• Monitor player and staff health and safety during team travel.
• Perform injury recognition, evaluation, and acute care.
• Provide injury treatment and rehabilitation, athletic movement assessment, and therapeutic exercise programming.
• Maintain medical records in accordance with organizational and MLB league minimum standards with the Electronic Medical Record (ARMS) system.
• Attend Spring Training in West Palm Beach, FL from mid-February to April 2027.
• Provide field coverage of daily practices and games for both Home and Road games during the 2027 Minor League Championship Season (April 2027 to September 2027).
• Provide coverage of daily practices during off-season performance camps in West Palm Beach, FL (October and November 2027).

Qualifications

• Current Board of Certification (BOC) certification for Athletic Trainers (ATC)
• CPR/AED Certification
• Current state licensure or eligibility for state licensure as assigned

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s level degree in Athletic Training or associated field.
• Spanish language proficiency
• Previous experience in professional baseball or Division-I collegiate athletics.

Compensation

The projected annual salary for this position is $60,000-$70,000 per year. Actual pay is based on several factors, including but not limited to the applicant’s: qualifications, skills, expertise, education/training, certifications, and other organization requirements. Starting salaries for new employees are frequently not at the top of the applicable salary range.
