Position Summary

Students who read have the power to succeed, and we’re on a mission to make sure every student is a strong reader!

Join Reading Corps as a Reading Tutor and you’ll spend your days at a local school helping students improve their skills. We’ll train you to deliver proven activities and coach you every step of the way!

How does it work? Every school day you’ll see pairs of students for 20 minutes of reading practice. When your time together is up, you’ll help your students return to their classroom(s) and pick up your next pair for tutoring. You’ll repeat until all your students are served.

With the extra attention and support, incredible growth happens. As your students build their skills and confidence, you’ll be there to encourage, celebrate, and cheer them on!

Essential Qualifications

By the time you begin your service with Reading Corps, you should be:

  • Dependable and have a history of good attendance
  • Able to follow instructions and make improvements based on feedback
  • Proficient in basic computer skills (like email and navigating online)
  • Fluent in English for speaking, reading, and writing
  • 18 years of age or older with a high school diploma or equivalent
  • A citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident of the United States
  • Ability to successfully complete a background check
Schedule

We are currently hiring for the 2025-26 school year. Positions run August 2025-June 2026

  • 35 Hours per week (less in weeks with holidays or school release days)
  • Daytime hours (correspond with school start and end times)
  • Monday-Friday (no weekends)
  • Time off on holidays and school release days

Part-time positions are also available at 25 hours per week

Full-time AmeriCorps members receive a paycheck (stipend) every two weeks. Compensation: $17.50 per hour served and additional perks!
