About the Job

The Minnesota English Language Program (MELP) in the College of Continuing and Professional Studies (CCAPS) at the University of Minnesota is seeking a pool of qualified instructors for part‑time, adjunct Lecturer positions for various terms throughout the academic year. These are temporary, non‑tenured positions paid on a per‑course basis.

Adjunct Lecturers will be responsible for teaching courses in the Intensive English Program, Academic English Program, or a Short‑Term Program. Duties include planning and teaching one or more ESL courses; attending staff meetings and orientation; collaborating with other teachers on curriculum development; and student assessment and other program duties as assigned.

The search committee will review applications as program needs arise throughout the year. Candidates will only be contacted when there is a course available.

Qualifications

Required:

1. Demonstrated commitment to creating an inclusive environment that serves a diverse community in a professional setting.
2. MA in TESOL or a closely related field in hand by time of appointment.
3. At least one semester of ESL teaching at the college or university level.
4. Evidence of an excellent teaching record.
5. Superior communication skills in English.

Preferred:

1. Significant experience teaching ESL at the college or university level.
2. Successful completion of an ESL practicum course (with documentation).
3. Experience mentoring new ESL teachers in one's own classroom.
4. Experience teaching diverse groups of students in a variety of settings.
5. Experience integrating technology into language teaching.
6. Strong interpersonal skills.
7. The ability to work well on a team.
8. Experience and interest in curriculum development.
9. Evidence of continuing professional activity.

Pay and Benefits

Standard Teaching Compensation

For adjunct instructors who have already taught fewer than 72 semester credits post‑MA at MELP the rate is $1,485.00 per credit equivalent (includes preparation).

For adjunct instructors who have already taught 72 semester credits or more post‑MA at MELP the rate is $1,535.00 per credit equivalent (includes preparation).

Retirement plan options are available for Civil Service, Faculty, Labor‑Represented, Professional & Administrative, and Temp Casual classifications.
