SUMMARY Under general supervision, assists the Program Coordinator and MPS program staff in planning, organizing, implementing, leading, and managing the daily schedule of the
Minneapolis Kids child care program; maintains the program in accordance with DHS State Certified Center compliance and Quality Initiatives.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS -- Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. Employees are required to be in attendance and prepared to begin work at their assigned work location on the specified days and hours. in job descriptions but are an essential function. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Collaborates with the Program Coordinator to lead and maintain the day-to-day operations ofthe child care program and in accordance with DHS State Certified Center compliance andquality initiatives.
  • Observes, evaluates and reports the children’s developmental progress, health and well being;assures the space promote learning in a safe environment for the youth.
  • Delivers classroom and recreational services; assists with attendance, parent pick up and dropoff, clerical duties, behavior management, and classroom preparation and setup.
  • Supervises, observes, and assists with positive interactions between program youth. Buildscommunity within the group and establishes a welcoming, engaging, respectful, cooperativeenvironment.
  • Plans and implements appropriate enrichment and recreational activities for Minneapolis Kidsyouth, as appropriate, consults with Program Coordinator and other program staff whenplanning. Submit weekly activity plans.
  • Coordinates the work of Child Care Assistants and volunteers.
  • Assists youth in learning and recreational programs; reinforces positive behavior, providesindividual assistance, encourages socialization. Provide appropriate behavior guidance and takeappropriate disciplinary action when needed.
  • Performs clerical duties, maintains and organizes files, keeps records and assists with reports.
  • Provides customer service to parents and guardians; initiates and maintains appropriate daily contact and communications with parents/guardians. Answers program-related questions.
  • Demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with students, clients,visitors, and MPS staff; acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplaceenvironment
  • Enthusiastically promotes the Superintendent’s goals and priorities in compliance withall policies and procedures.
  • Maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, records and MPS information.
  • Other duties or tasks may be assigned on an as-needed basis
  • At times may be required to work outside normal business hours and work extended hours toaccomplish requirements of the position.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Associate’s Degree in Child Development, Education or a related field; AND two (2) years of paidexperience working with children that meets Minnesota Child Care Licensing Guidelines; AND 24 collegelevel quarter credits; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience as determined byHuman Resources. College courses in Early Childhood Education are preferred.

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

A valid Minnesota State Driver’s License may be required.

First Aid/CPR training is required; additional health and safety training may be required.

Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training may be required within one (1) year of hire, based on assignment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed in a classroom environment and requires working with children; requires moderate physical requirements, occasionally lifting such articles as file boxes or heavier materials with help from others and/or lifting and carrying light objects frequently. A job in this category may require walking or standing to a significant degree. Must be able to lift 30 pounds; may be required to physically restrain students if they are at risk of hurting themselves or others.
