The Salvation Army USA Central Territory in Lafayette, IN seeks a Ministry Discovery Intern to observe and participate in corps leadership and programming in alignment with our mission. You will support worship, education, community outreach, and social services under supervision.

Ideal candidates have a high school diploma, commitment to The Salvation Army mission, and the ability to coordinate events, learn reporting systems, and work some evenings/weekends in a church and community setting.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
• One year membership with The Salvation Army.
• Valid driver's license and Safe from Harm training within 90 days.
• Ability to speak, write and understand English; proficient with Microsoft products.

Responsibilities

• Plan, lead, and support worship, Bible studies, and related education programs.
• Develop corps programming, music, and leadership training; coordinate events.
• Represent The Salvation Army at community events.
• Support social services including food pantry and financial assistance.
• Coordinate seasonal programs (e.g., Christmas Kettles, Angel Tree).
• Participate in pastoral and evangelistic ministries and planning committees.
• Maintain facilities and assist with budgeting and fundraising.
• Perform other tasks as assigned by leadership.

Salary Range Starting at: $28,121.60/ annually

Job Objective

As the Ministry Discovery Intern, you will observe and participate in the leadership of all aspects of corps ministry ensuring that the Mission of The Salvation Army is effectively carried out.

What You Will Do

• Participate in Worship and Christian education programs (Sunday School, Bible Studies, Corps Cadets, Small Groups etc.,) including planning, leading meetings, preaching, teaching, and supporting others in those roles.
• Participate in and coordinate, as assigned, the development of corps programming, worship arts, music programs, special programming (VBS, Day Camps, Outreaches), Character Building and Leadership Training for corps members.
• Represent the Army at community events.
• Support social services as needed including food pantry, financial assistance, and Pathway of Hope.
• Assist in coordinating seasonal programs including Christmas Kettles, Angel Tree, Summer Day Camp and other special events.
• Participate in pastoral and evangelistic ministries including Pastoral Care Council, Corps Council and Youth and Adult Planning Committees.
• Property upkeep and facility preparation for programming.
• Participate in corps financial goals by observing budget and support of fundraising efforts and thrift store operations.
• Other tasks as assigned by leadership

Minimum Qualifications

Education

High School Diploma required, Bachelor's Degree preferred.

Background Checks

Position requires a background check to be completed and all background check results will be reviewed.

Experience

One year membership with The Salvation Army.

Certifications

Must have a valid driver's license and maintain The Salvation Army Driver's qualification standard; must complete Safe from Harm training within the first 90 days of employment.

Skills/Abilities

• Able to speak, write and understand English in a manner sufficient for effective communication with leadership, field personnel, and clientele
• Computer proficiency with Microsoft products and ability to learn electronic reporting systems

Physical Requirements

• Good speaking, hearing and vision ability, and excellent manual dexterity
• Lifting, pulling, and pushing of materials up to 25 pounds
• May require bending, squatting, walking
• May require standing for extended periods

Travel: Position will require occasional travel for training and events.

Working Conditions: Work is performed in a office, store, and church environment; Will require some weekend and evening work.
