Job summary
South Carolina Department of Environmental Services (SCDES) is seeking a qualified professional to support the Mining & Reclamation Program under the Bureau of Land and Waste Management. You will review mine operating permit applications, assist in evaluations and permit decisions, and conduct field inspections to ensure compliance with mining laws and reclamation requirements.
You will also provide guidance to permittees, consultants, and operators, and assist regulatory agencies and the public
Qualifications
- High school diploma or 2 years of related environmental health experience
- Bachelor's degree may substitute for work experience
Responsibilities
- Conduct technical reviews of mine operating permit applications and reclamation plans to ensure compliance with the SC Mining Act and regulations
- Perform inspections of mining operations to evaluate compliance with permit requirements and reclamation plans
- Serve as a technical resource on mine reclamation practices for agency staff, permit applicants, consultants, and operators
- Provide technical assistance to mining industry on mining and reclamation requirements and respond to inquiries
- Communicate with regulatory agencies, stakeholders, and the public regarding technical reviews and evaluations
- Perform other related duties as assigned
