Schnabel Engineering is seeking a Mining Project Manager to join our Mining and Geotechnical practice in Longmont, CO. This role combines technical execution with client support, managing diverse mining and geotechnical projects across the United States.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in geological/mining/civil/geotechnical engineering or related discipline; Master’s preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant professional experience in mining, geology, geotechnical, civil, environmental consulting.
  • Experience managing engineering projects including budgets, schedules, and client communications.
  • Experience supporting field investigations, drilling programs, construction oversight, or mine-related projects.
  • Strong technical writing, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Willingness and ability to perform field work and travel up to 50% of time.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and execute mining, geological, geotechnical, and multidisciplinary engineering projects from planning through completion.
  • Coordinate project schedules, budgets, deliverables, and resources to ensure successful project execution.
  • Plan and oversee field investigations, drilling programs, geotechnical explorations, geologic mapping, and construction observation activities.
  • Prepare and review technical reports, engineering analyses, specifications, work plans, and permit support documents.
  • Coordinate and communicate with clients, contractors, regulatory agencies, and internal project teams.
  • Support proposal preparation, scope development, fee estimates, and business development initiatives.
  • Mentor and provide guidance to junior engineers, geologists, and field staff.
  • Work collaboratively with mining, tunneling, geotechnical, dams, environmental, and civil teams across Schnabel offices.
  • Support projects involving mine reclamation, abandoned mine lands, geologic hazards, slope stability, earthworks, and infrastructure development.
  • Travel to project sites as needed to support field investigations, client meetings, and construction activities.

Job Description

Schnabel Engineering is seeking a Mining Project Manager to join our growing Mining and Geotechnical practice in Longmont, CO. We are looking for a motivated professional with strong technical capabilities, project management experience, and a desire to support the continued growth of our mining services throughout the United States.

This role offers the opportunity to work on a variety of projects involving active and abandoned mines, geotechnical investigations, mine reclamation, drilling programs, infrastructure development, and multidisciplinary engineering projects. The successful candidate will balance technical project execution with client support, project management, and collaboration across Schnabel offices nationwide.

Job Responsibilities

Required Skills & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Geological Engineering, Mining Engineering, Geology, Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or related discipline. (Master’s degree preferred)
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant professional experience in mining, geological, geotechnical, civil, environmental, or related consulting services.
  • Experience managing engineering or consulting projects including budgets, schedules, and client communications.
  • Experience supporting field investigations, drilling programs, construction oversight, or mine-related projects.
  • Strong technical writing, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and manage multiple priorities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and standard engineering software applications.
  • Willingness and ability to perform field work and travel out of state for several weeks at a time. (Travel can be up to 50% of time in any given year and varies seasonally)
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds and be physically able to negotiate construction sites, enter trenches, climb ladders, and work outside.
  • Ability to work in a variety of rugged environments including high-altitude basins, underground abandoned mines, and in a wide range of weather conditions.
  • Ability to drive company vehicles on 4x4 roads in mountainous terrain.
  • Willingness to work at both surface and underground mines, including active and abandoned mine sites. MSHA, HAZWOPER and other required training will be provided.
Preferred Skills & Experience
  • Professional Engineer (PE) or Professional Geologist (PG), or ability to obtain licensure.
  • Experience with active mining, abandoned mine reclamation, underground mining, or mine permitting projects.
  • Experience with CAD, GIS, mine planning software, geotechnical analysis programs, or geological modeling applications.
  • MSHA, HAZWOPER, or other mining-related safety training.
  • Experience supporting proposals, client development, or business development efforts.
Other Requirements
  • Ability to pass a background check which may include criminal history, motor vehicle record, credit check.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening.

The compensation range for this position is between $80,000 to $105,000. Compensation for this position may vary based on geographic location and other factors. We remain committed to providing competitive and equitable compensation to all employees, regardless of their location.
