Job summary

Sawtooth Mining is seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Mechanic for the Thacker Pass Lithium Project. You will maintain, diagnose, and repair large-scale mining equipment, ensuring peak performance and safety. Work with an experienced team to keep operations running smoothly and safely.

The role emphasizes preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and rebuilds, with rotating 12-hour shifts and a strong focus on MSHA safety standards and environmental regulations.

Qualifications

• Two years of maintenance experience or a technical degree is required.
• A high school diploma or GED is required.
• Must pass the necessary written and practical tests for this position.
• Rotating shift work is required and must be able to work up to 12-hour shifts.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance on heavy mining equipment on a scheduled basis.
• Troubleshoot/diagnose heavy equipment malfunctions and replace parts, repair, and rebuild as necessary.
• Dismantle and reassemble equipment using hoists and hand tools.
• Read blueprints and follow service manuals and parts lists in setting up and performing repairs and any rebuilds.
• Utilize work orders and requisitions for ordering parts and maintenance of equipment cost records.
• Advise when immediate shutdown of equipment is necessary to minimize damage or when continued operation will have harmful effect.
• Perform job duties following MSHA law and regulations, established company safety procedures, and state and federal environmental regulations.
• Fuel and lube equipment; operate the equipment to diagnose problems and test after repair; operate light vehicles to travel the mine site; maintain shop area with proper housekeeping.

Job Description:

Support a safety-first team maintaining and repairing large-scale mining equipment as a heavy equipment mechanic within a growing mining operation.

We are looking for a skilled professional who prioritizes safety and is enthusiastic about maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing heavy-duty mining equipment. This hands-on role will play a critical role in keeping operations running at peak performance at the Thacker Pass Lithium Project.

You’ll work alongside an experienced team performing preventative maintenance, troubleshooting mechanical issues, and rebuilding equipment as needed. Essential Duties:

• Perform preventive maintenance such as changing oil, greasing, and replacing components on a scheduled basis.
• Troubleshoot/diagnose heavy equipment malfunctions and replace parts, repair, and rebuild as necessary.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Strong work ethic with effective communication skills.
• Must have a background in repair and maintenance of heavy equipment, including the ability to read, understand, and use prints and manuals.
• Must possess knowledge of mechanical, i.e., engine, transmission, drive train, pneumatic, hydraulic components, brake, and air conditioning systems, and skills in diagnosing malfunctions.
• Rotating shift work is required, and must be able to work up to 12-hour shifts.
