Job summary

Walker Lovell seeks an underground mining engineer to support planning, ground control, and safety at a limestone operation in West Virginia. You will influence development decisions and shape your role around your technical strengths within a privately owned, team-focused business.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering (required).
  • Strong underground mining experience in hard rock/limestone environments.
  • Knowledge of ground control, roof control and pillar stability.
  • Experience with mine planning, ventilation and blasting.

Responsibilities

  • Support underground mine planning, production scheduling and future mine development.
  • Lead technical role in ground control, roof stability and pillar stability.
  • Support ventilation planning, blasting and safe underground operations.
  • Assess challenging geological conditions and develop practical solutions.
  • Collaborate with Mine Manager to improve safety, productivity and performance.
  • Support longer-term mine planning and expansion initiatives.
  • Provide engineering input across underground limestone operations.

What you'll be doing
  • Support underground mine planning, production scheduling and future mine development
  • Take a leading technical role in ground control, roof stability and pillar stability
  • Support ventilation planning, blasting and safe underground mine operations
  • Assess challenging geological conditions and help develop practical engineering solutions
  • Work closely with the Mine Manager and site leadership to improve safety, productivity and operational performance
  • Support longer-term mine planning and expansion initiatives
  • Provide engineering input across a predominantly underground hard rock limestone operation
What you'll bring
  • Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or a closely related technical discipline
  • Strong underground mining experience within hard rock, limestone or a comparable environment
  • Strong knowledge of ground control, roof control and pillar stability
  • Experience with mine planning, ventilation and blastingUnderstanding of MSHA Part 48 requirements
  • Experience working in technically challenging underground conditions
  • A strong safety mindset and practical approach to solving operational problems

Previous people-management experience is welcome, but it is not essential. Candidates with particularly strong technical expertise in ground control and underground engineering are encouraged to apply.
