Job summary

Keller Executive Search is seeking an experienced Mining Construction Superintendent to oversee large-scale mining, earthwork, reclamation, and environmental remediation projects across the Western United States. This role leads field crews, heavy equipment activities, and subcontractors, while maintaining safety, quality, productivity, and cost control in partnership with a remotely based Project Manager.

  • Thorough understanding of safety requirements for heavy civil and earthmoving operations.
  • Ability to independently manage a remote project site.
  • Strong leadership, communication, planning, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams.
  • Willingness to travel ~95% across the Western US.
  • Residence in Pacific or Mountain time zones preferred.
  • Ability to work outdoors in dusty, noisy environments with changing weather.

Responsibilities

  • Lead daily onsite construction activities including crews, equipment, subcontractors, materials, and production.
  • Execute mining, earthwork, reclamation, and remediation per schedules, drawings, specs, and contract requirements.
  • Maintain safety culture and ensure compliance with site safety plans and regulations.

  • Coordinate inventory and equipment to support production and budgets.
  • Ensure work meets quality standards and project scope.
  • Support incident investigations and corrective actions.
  • Integrate subcontractors into safety, quality, and production expectations.
  • Provide regular updates to Project Manager on safety, productivity, quality, scheduling, and financials.

Job description

A leading environmental and geotechnical specialty contractor is seeking an experienced Mining Construction Superintendent to oversee large-scale mining, earthwork, reclamation, and environmental remediation projects throughout the Western United States.

This individual will take ownership of daily site operations, leading field crews, heavy equipment activities, and subcontractors while maintaining high standards of safety, quality, productivity, and cost control. The Superintendent will work closely with a remotely based Project Manager but must be comfortable operating independently as the senior leader onsite.

Candidates may live anywhere within the Pacific or Mountain time zones but must be comfortable travelling approximately 95% of the time, particularly throughout the Four Corners region.

Responsibilities
  • Lead all daily onsite construction activities, including crews, equipment, subcontractors, materials, and production.
  • Execute mining, earthwork, reclamation, and remediation work in accordance with project schedules, drawings, technical specifications, and contract requirements.
  • Maintain a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with site safety plans, company procedures, and applicable regulations.
  • Lead daily safety meetings and work closely with site safety personnel.
  • Evaluate employee competency and ensure the safe operation of heavy earthmoving equipment.
  • Monitor crew performance and provide training, coaching, and corrective action when required.
  • Track daily progress, production, labour hours, materials, equipment usage, and project costs.
  • Prepare accurate daily reports, timesheets, and supporting project documentation.
  • Coordinate onsite inventory and equipment requirements to support production schedules and budgets.
  • Ensure all work meets required quality standards and remains within the agreed project scope.
  • Support incident investigations and implement appropriate corrective actions.
  • Integrate subcontractors into the project’s safety, quality, and production expectations.
  • Provide the Project Manager with regular updates on safety, productivity, quality, scheduling, and financial performance.
  • At least 10 years of construction experience, including 5 or more years in direct field supervision.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience within the mining industry.
  • Demonstrated experience supervising field crews, heavy equipment, subcontractors, and complex site operations.
  • Strong background in mining construction, mass excavation, mine reclamation, earthwork, soil stabilization, landfill closure, and/or environmental remediation.
  • Thorough understanding of safety requirements for heavy civil and earthmoving operations.
  • Ability to independently manage the day-to-day execution of a remote project site.
  • Strong leadership, communication, planning, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Willingness and ability to travel approximately 95% throughout the Western United States.
  • Residence within the Pacific or Mountain time zones preferred.
  • Ability to work outdoors in active construction environments involving dust, noise, heavy equipment, and changing weather conditions.
  • Base salary of approximately $90,000–$130,000, depending on experience.
  • Project-based per diem.
  • Company vehicle or approximately $10,000 annual vehicle allowance, plus mileage.
