Job description

International Minerals Carlsbad LLC is seeking an experienced Mine Maintenance Person to maintain and repair the equipment and facilities essential to underground mining operations.

This position troubleshoots and repairs mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems on underground face equipment, diesel equipment, material-handling systems, feeders, conveyors, and related mining machinery. The ideal candidate has a strong heavy-equipment maintenance background, works safely in demanding underground conditions, and can respond to scheduled and unplanned maintenance requirements.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical problems on underground face equipment.
  • Repair and maintain underground diesel equipment.
  • Maintain and repair volumetric skip-loading equipment.
  • Service and repair pan feeders, vibratory feeders, and related material-handling equipment.
  • Repair and maintain belt pulleys, drive motors, gear units, and hydraulic take-up systems.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and scheduled service on underground face equipment.
  • Inspect equipment to identify wear, damage, leaks, electrical concerns, and potential failures.
  • Diagnose equipment problems and complete appropriate corrective repairs.
  • Perform electrical resistance welding and oxy-acetylene cutting activities.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, diagnostic equipment, and other tools required to complete assigned work.
  • Document completed maintenance and communicate equipment conditions or recurring problems to supervisors and coworkers.
  • Maintain safe, clean, and orderly work areas.
  • Follow all company safety rules, maintenance procedures, and personal protective equipment requirements.
  • Work required overtime, including unscheduled callouts, to support mining operations.
  • Perform additional underground maintenance duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Strong background in heavy-equipment maintenance involving mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical equipment problems.
  • Ability to use the tools and equipment required to perform assigned maintenance duties.
  • Ability and willingness to work underground in active mining areas.
  • Ability and willingness to work required overtime and respond to callouts.
  • Demonstrated dependability and consistent attendance.
  • Work history reflecting a strong commitment to workplace safety.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment when diagnosing and repairing equipment.
  • Ability to follow work instructions, maintenance procedures, and safety requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
  • At least two years of heavy-equipment maintenance experience within an industrial environment.
  • Maintenance experience within underground mining operations.
  • Experience supporting continuous mechanized mining operations.
  • Experience maintaining underground diesel and face equipment.
  • Experience repairing feeders, conveyor components, drive motors, gear units, and hydraulic take-up systems.
  • Postsecondary technical education in industrial maintenance, diesel technology, mechanical systems, electrical systems, or a related field.
  • Relevant postsecondary technical education may substitute for up to one year of the preferred experience.
Physical Requirements

The Mine Maintenance Person must be able to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation, including:

  • Performing physically demanding maintenance work in an underground mining environment.
  • Lifting and moving equipment, tools, and materials weighing up to 50 pounds and handling heavier loads in accordance with company policy and approved lifting practices.
  • Frequently standing, walking, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, and shoveling.
  • Swinging a sledgehammer and using bars or other tools to remove loose material.
  • Working in restricted spaces and low-height mining areas with clearances as low as approximately 48 inches.
  • Working at varying heights and accessing equipment in confined or difficult-to-reach locations.
  • Using hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, cutting equipment, and maintenance machinery.
  • Wearing all required personal protective equipment.
Work Environment

This position works primarily underground within an active mining operation. Working conditions may include confined or restricted spaces, low-clearance areas, uneven surfaces, moving equipment, noise, vibration, dust, heat, and other conditions associated with underground mining and heavy-equipment maintenance.

The Mine Maintenance Person must comply with all safety procedures, equipment requirements, training standards, and personal protective equipment requirements.
