Job summary

Freeport-McMoRan Inc. is seeking an Mine Maintenance - Operations Mentor to train and mentor crew members, develop training materials, and assess competency in an on-site mining environment.

The role emphasizes safety, hands-on coaching, and collaboration with department leadership. The position requires 7 years of industrial experience or a 3-year degree with related work, strong English communication, and the ability to operate within a 24/7 mining setting.

Qualifications

  • Seven (7) years of industrial work experience or a Bachelor’s degree with 3 years of experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively across multiple platforms (in-person, paper, digital).
  • Ability to understand and apply safety instructions and procedures in English.
  • High school diploma or equivalent and related experience may substitute for degree in some cases.
  • Recognized as highly skilled in KSAs and mentoring activities.

Responsibilities

  • Train crew members in department KSAs and mentoring activities.
  • Support department development and training through interaction with mentees and leadership.
  • Assess task/skill competency of crew members and update training materials.
  • Develop and maintain department SOPs and related training documentation.
  • Update training documentation and participate in continuous improvement of programs.
  • Perform other duties aligned with developing and mentoring others in operations.

What You Will Do

  • Train crew members in varied areas within the scope of incumbent’s Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs), individually or in a team, on department-specific jobs and skills.
  • Support department development/operational initiatives through direct interaction with mentees, department leadership, and technical training. Act as liaison between various groups (e.g., training, department, and employee) to facilitate understanding and response to shortcomings and opportunities.
  • Assesses task/skill competency of individual crew members
  • Assists department supervision/training institute in identifying technical competencies and developing & maintaining department SOPs and other training materials.
  • Integral in updating training-related documentation for department workforce
  • Perform other duties as requested that correlate with the primary objective of developing and mentoring others in an operating area.
Qualifications

What You Bring To Freeport

  • Seven (7) years of industrial work experience (e.g., construction, material handling, conveying, fixed or mobile equipment maintenance, mobile equipment operation, underground mining).

OR

  • Bachelor’s degree and (3) years of industrial work experience (e.g., construction, material handling, conveying, fixed or mobile equipment maintenance, mobile equipment operation, underground mining).
  • Direct experience in processes, equipment, and maintenance akin to operating areas where mentoring activity will occur (e.g., mine operations, fixed plant operations, fixed plant maintenance, mobile equipment operations, mobile equipment maintenance).
  • Ability to communicate effectively across multiple platforms (in-person, paper, digital)
  • Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions. Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards.
  • Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety-related instructions and procedures given in English
  • Ability to communicate in English with respect to job assignments, job procedures, and applicable safety standards

Preferred Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • At least 10 years directly related work experience
  • Recognized as highly skilled in all KSAs identified by the department Line-of-Progression.

What We Offer You

The estimated pay range for this role is currently$31.00 - $41.00/hour. This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job-related factors. This role is eligible for additional discretionary and incentive payment considerations based on company and individual performance. More details will be shared during the hiring process.
