Job description

About Jerritt Canyon

The Jerritt Canyon deposit was discovered in 1972, and the first gold production from the property occurred in 1981. The Jerritt Canyon property contains 30,821 hectares of mining claims located in the mining-friendly state of Nevada. First Majestic acquired the Jerritt Canyon Gold Mine from Sprott Mining Inc. on April 30, 2021. In May 2023, operations were suspended to prioritize exploration and technical studies. Jerritt Canyon is now entering a new phase of evaluation and planning, requiring substantial technical support to advance the work necessary for a potential future restart of operations.

The Opportunity

This is a high-impact leadership opportunity for an experienced underground mine engineering professional who wants to help shape the next chapter of a premier Nevada gold property. The Mine Engineering Superintendent will lead the technical services functions that support safe, disciplined, and cost-effective underground mine planning and execution, with responsibility for mine planning, mine design, ventilation, drill and blast, surveying, technical reporting, and cross-functional support to operations. The successful candidate will bring strong leadership, advanced technical capability, and the ability to build practical systems, standards, and processes that support operational readiness and a potential future restart at Jerritt Canyon.

Responsibilities
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a capable engineering and surveying team with a focus on safety, accountability, technical excellence, and succession planning
  • Operate with a high degree of independence and sound judgment, successfully leading priorities, resolving issues, and advancing work with limited direction
  • Develop team members through coaching, clear expectations, accountability, feedback, and opportunities that build technical capability and leadership depth
  • Lead difficult and constructive conversations with professionalism, respect, and clarity while maintaining trust, accountability, and forward momentum
  • Promote a high-performance culture grounded in safe work practices, operational discipline, continuous improvement, and collaboration
  • Partner closely with operations, geology, maintenance, environmental, processing, safety, and senior leadership teams to align technical work with site priorities and business objectives
  • Collaborate effectively across departments to support shared accountability, remove barriers, and make decisions that advance the overall success of the business
  • Direct and oversee short-range, medium-range, and long-range mine planning to support production readiness, infrastructure planning, development sequencing, and life-of-mine strategy
  • Bring a strategic, innovative mindset with the willingness to take on complex challenges, improve existing systems, and identify practical solutions that create long-term value
  • Apply industry best practices in mine design, scheduling, plan compliance, and resource optimization to improve safety, productivity, cost performance, and execution reliability
  • Establish effective planning controls, reporting routines, and performance metrics that provide clear visibility into plan compliance, development progress, production readiness, and technical risks
  • Lead ventilation planning, monitoring, modeling, and improvement initiatives to support safe and compliant underground operations
  • Oversee drill and blast engineering standards, designs, performance tracking, and continuous improvement activities
  • Provide sound technical guidance and practical recommendations to support mine restart planning, operational readiness, capital planning, and long-term value creation
  • Maintain strong standards for engineering documentation, data integrity, technical reviews, regulatory compliance, and communication of key risks and opportunities

The above duties and responsibilities represent the nature and level of work assigned and are not necessarily all-inclusive.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or a related technical discipline required; professional registration or eligibility is considered an asset
  • Minimum of 10 years of underground mining experience, including progressively responsible technical services, mine planning, and operational support experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of leadership experience supervising, coaching, and developing engineering, planning, surveying, or technical teams
  • Advanced working knowledge of Deswik mine design and scheduling software required; experience building practical planning systems and workflows strongly preferred
  • Strong underground ventilation experience, including planning, modeling, optimization, monitoring, and regulatory compliance
  • Demonstrated experience developing and integrating short-range, medium-range, long-range, and life-of-mine plans in an underground mining environment
  • Strong understanding of underground mining methods, ground control principles, development sequencing, production processes, and cost drivers
  • Experience supporting mine restart, ramp-up, operational readiness, or major improvement initiatives is highly desirable
  • Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams, communicate technical information clearly, and make sound decisions in a fast-paced operating environment
Why Join Us
  • Opportunity to play a key leadership role in evaluating and preparing a significant Nevada gold asset for a potential future restart
  • High-visibility technical leadership role with meaningful influence over planning systems, standards, team development, and operational readiness
  • Collaborative environment with the ability to partner across operations, geology, maintenance, processing, safety, and senior leadership
  • Competitive opportunity for a proven underground mining professional seeking a challenging, career-building role in one of North America's most established mining jurisdictions
