Job summary

Freeport-McMoRan is hiring a Mine Engineer to develop mining plans using geological data and support long-range production goals. You will participate in feasibility studies, help estimate ore reserves, and optimize methods and equipment for safety and efficiency.

The role requires a degree in Mine Engineering (or related) with experience. Expect a non-standard schedule in a 24/7 operation and opportunities for professional growth within the company.

Qualifications

• Requires a mine engineering degree and related experience.
• Master's degree with 2+ years of related experience.
• Knowledge of the principles and practices of Mine Engineering.
• Ability to research and analyze information of considerable difficulty.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Responsibilities

• Develop mining plans from available geological information to support short/long-range planning.
• Participate in feasibility studies to define mining methods, equipment, facilities, and staffing needs.
• Assist in preparing detailed ore reserve estimates.
• Monitor mining methods and equipment to improve performance.
• Optimize mining methods, procedures and equipment for safety and productivity.
• Develop and manage mine designs including ventilation, waste dumps and stockpiles.
• Recommend actions to prevent production issues and improve efficiency and environment.
• Work with geologists and engineers during exploration and development phases.
• Monitor mine ventilation and air quality at sites.
• Perform other duties as required.

What You Will Do

• Develop mining plans based on all available geological information to support short and/or long-range planning and production goals.
• Participate in Engineering feasibility studies to define proper mining methods, equipment selection, mine site facilities, and manpower and production requirements.
• Assist in the preparation of detailed ore reserve estimates.
• Monitor mining methods and equipment to improve performance.
• Ensure maximum productivity and extraction rates by optimizing mining methods, procedures, and equipment.
• Assist in developing and managing mine, mine ventilation, waste dumps and stockpile designs.
• Recommend courses of action designed to eliminate potential production problems and to improve safety, operational efficiency, control production costs and protect the environment.
• Work with Geologists in exploration and assists in the Engineering phase of developments and operational activities.
• Monitor mine ventilation and air quality at working sites throughout the mine.
• Perform other duties as required.

What You Bring To Freeport

• Bachelor's degree in Mine Engineering or related Engineering disciplineandthree (3) years of related experience in Engineering,OR
• Master's degree in Mine Engineering or related Engineering disciplineandtwo (2) years of related experience in Engineering
• Knowledge of the principles and practices of Mine Engineering
• Able to research and analyze information of considerable difficulty and draw valid conclusions.
• Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
• Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing

What We Offer You

The estimated annual pay range for this role is currently$87,500-$120,000.This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job-related factors. This role is eligible for additional discretionary and incentive payment considerations based on company and individual performance. More details will be shared during the hiring process.
