Matrix HR is hiring up to 35 skilled tradespeople for an upcoming industrial shutdown in Newport News, Virginia. This high-intensity project will run from May 5–18, 2025, with travel scheduled for May 4 (inbound) and May 19 (outbound).
This shutdown requires precision, commitment, and a strong safety mindset. Successful candidates will be considered for future shutdowns, including the next scheduled for July 1–14, 2025.
Pay: $30-$34/hour.
Per Diem: $150-$160/day.
Trade Requirements:
Millwright Welders (Top Priority – 14 Required):
- Must have both Millwright and Welding experience.
- Capable of precision layout and structural assembly.
- Certified in Stick (SMAW) welding – AWS certs required.
- Hands-on experience with conveyors, slew drives (8000 lbs), chutes, and structural steel.
Welders:
- AWS Stick welding certification required.
- Experience in bolt-up and weld environments is essential.
Millwrights:
- Experience in equipment installation, structural repair, and precision fitting.
- Strong layout and mechanical assembly skills.
Riggers:
- Must have valid rigging certification (Standard accepted, NCCER+ not required).
Schedule:
- Mandatory Pre-Project Meeting: Sunday, May 4 at 3 PM.
Paid 2 hours + Per Diem applicable that day. - Shutdown Dates: May 5 – May 18 (Day & Night shifts, 12 hours).
- Travel Days: Inbound: May 4 | Outbound: May 19.
- Day Shift: 6:00 AM arrival (shuttle departs by 6:30 AM).
- Night Shift: 6:00 PM arrival.
**Late arrivals may miss site access, resulting in lost pay and per diem.**
Required Certifications (Must Be Valid):
- OSHA 10 (within 3 years).
- Aerial Work Platform (AWP).
- Telehandler.
- Fall Protection / Harness Training.
- Rigging.
Candidate Must Bring (Non-Negotiable):
- Personal harness with double retractable lanyards.
- 3 personal lockout locks.
- Appropriate work gear for a very dirty, industrial environment.
Project Scope:
- Changing chute systems, conveyors, and slew drives.
- Structural steel repairs.
- Precision layout, fitting, and welding.
- Working with cranes, large steel sections, and at heights.
Good to Know:
- Online certificates accepted (competency preferred).
- No belt splicing required.
- Respirators available onsite if required.
- No harnesses or locks provided – must bring your own.
- Candidates who do not fulfill their commitment (no-shows, quits, tardiness) will not be considered for future shutdowns.
