Job summary

Wood is seeking a Millwright for our Port Lavaca, Texas location. You will read blueprints, assemble, align and install machinery, and maintain equipment, with emphasis on safety and efficient operation.

The ideal candidate demonstrates the ability to work 12-hour shifts in varying conditions and to troubleshoot mechanical systems, including robotics and foundations. This on-site role requires precise manual skills and strong teamwork.

Qualifications

• Lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Adequate strength and stamina to perform the technical duties and essential functions.
• Move in and around confined and uneven areas.
• Full range of motion consistent with age.
• May work 12-hour shifts in varying temperature extremes and conditions.
• May occasionally work up to 16 hours in a single shift.
• Climb and maintain balance on stairs, ladders, scaffolds and steel framework.
• Able to hear and respond to voice commands and alerts.
• Visual acuity, depth perception and color discrimination.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret blueprints, layout plans, manuals and drawings to determine work procedures.
• Dismantle machines using hammers, wrenches, crowbars and other hand tools.
• Move machinery and equipment using hoists, dollies, rollers and trucks.
• Assemble and install equipment such as shaffing, conveyors and tram rails using cranes, hand tools and power tools.
• Construct foundations for machines using hand tools and building materials.
• Align machines and equipment using hoists, jacks, hand tools, squares, rules, micrometers and plumb bobs.
• Install robot and modify its program using teach pendant.
• Use transit and level for equipment setting.
• Load, transport and unload materials, tools, equipment and supplies.
• Perform lubricating maintenance, cleaning activities, or repair of tools, machines, and equipment.
• Observe and comply with safety and project rules.
• Use effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Listen and communicate with supervision and employees.
• Be motivated and work safely and productively.
• Understand and respond accordingly to safety alerts and hazards.

Wood is currently sourcing for a Millwright to join our team in Port Lavaca, Texas. U.S. Only: Authorization to work lawfully in the US without sponsorship from Wood is required.

Responsibilities

• Reads and interprets blueprints, layout plans, vendor installation and operation manuals, and other schematic drawings to determine work procedures.
• Dismantles machines using hammers, wrenches, crowbars and other hand tools.
• Moves machinery and equipment using hoists, dollies, rollers and trucks.
• Assembles and installs equipment, such as shaffing, conveyors and tram rails, using cranes, hand tools and power tools.
• Constructs foundation for machines using hand tools and building materials, such as wood, cement and steel.
• Aligns machines and equipment using hoists, jacks, hand tools, squares, rules, micrometers and plumb bobs.
• Must have knowledge of optical and laser alignments.
• Assembles machines and bolts, welds, rivets or otherwise fastens them to foundation or other structures using hand tools and power tools.
• May operate engine lathe to grind, file and turn machine parts to dimensional specifications.
• May install robot and modify its program using teach pendant.
• May use transit and level for equipment setting.
• Loads, transports and unloads materials, tools, equipment and supplies.
• Performs lubricating maintenance, cleaning activities, or repair of tools, machines, and equipment.
• Responsible for observing and complying with all safety and project rules. Performs other duties as required.
• Use effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Be capable of listening and communicating with other supervision and employees.
• Be motivated and work safely and productively.
• Understand and respond accordingly to all safety alerts, warnings, hazards, etc.

Qualifications

• Must possess enough strength and stamina to perform the technical duties and essential functions as identified above.

• May be required consistently to work 12 hour shifts performing construction based labor in varying temperature extremes and conditions.
• May be required, on occasion, to work up to 16 hours in a single shift.
• Must be able to climb and maintain balance on stairs, ladders, scaffolds and steel framework.
• Must be able to adequately hear and respond to voice commands and alerts from other employees, alarms, and other job related noises.
• Visual acuity, depth perception and color discrimination consistent with that required to work at heights and on uneven surfaces.
