Job summary

Matrix Service, Inc. in Emporia, VA is seeking skilled maintenance professionals to perform scheduled and emergency repairs, inspections, and alignments on refinery equipment.

You will dismantle, rebuild, and test mechanical systems, using shop tools and lift equipment while adhering to safety protocols and company guidelines. Qualified candidates have 4+ years in refinery maintenance or construction, strong tool knowledge, and NCCER certification or equivalent testing.

Qualifications

  • Minimum four years in refinery maintenance/turnaround or construction.
  • General knowledge of basic hand and power tools.
  • Ability to assemble, install and test machines/equipment.
  • Must pass the Millwright Skills Test (70%+) or NCCER certification.

Responsibilities

  • Receives instructions for scheduled and emergency repairs, installation, and inspection.
  • Inspects equipment for defects and determines repair approach to minimize downtime.
  • Performs dismantling, cleaning, repairs, installation, and lubrication of mechanical equipment.
  • Assembles and aligns gears, bearings, and shafts; operates basic machine tools.
  • Ensures safe operation; adheres to PPE and safety protocols.

Description
Essential Functions:
  • Receives instructions covering the scheduled and emergency repairs, installation, and inspection work to be done.
  • Inspects plant/refinery equipment for defects, such as, misalignment, wear, insufficient lubrication, etc.
  • Determines the best way of making repairs to minimize interruption of production.
  • Advises when immediate shut-down of equipment is necessary to minimize damage or when temporarily continued operation will have no harmful effect.
  • Dismantle, cleans, repairs, replaces, installs, maintains, assembles, and lubricates mechanical equipment.
  • Adjusts equipment for proper operating characteristics.
  • Makes either temporary or permanent repairs.
  • Assembles and aligns gears, bearings, and shafts involving the application of press, sliding, and running fits.
  • Operates simple machine tools, such as, drill press, pipe-threading machine, and power saw.
  • Changes, sets up and adjusts equipment as required by current operating conditions.
  • Works with repair crews as directed on emergency breakdowns.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
  • Must have a minimum of four (4) years or more in refinery maintenance/turnaround/or construction experience.
  • Must have a general knowledge of basic hand and power tools.
  • Must be able to assemble, install and test machines and equipment to make sure they are working correctly.
  • Able to use machinery or equipment, such as forklifts to move mechanical parts.
  • Experience overseeing preventive maintenance by identifying and correcting potential issues, removing defective pieces and lubricating mechanical parts
  • Must be able to manage the layout and placement of equipment and machinery in factory settings to ensure minimum downtime
  • Must be able to pass the Millwright Skills Test at or above 70% or complete the NCCER certification for your craft.
  • Must complete the Matrix Service Safety training, Process Safety Management training and Client / Site specific training.
  • Must maintain an active status within the DISA drug testing program.
Physical Requirements:
  • Employee will be standing, walking, bending, squatting and lifting.
  • Must be able to hear, speak, understand and communicate effectivelyMay be required to lift, carry and move up to 50lbs.
  • May be required to work at heights, climb ladders and stairways and work off platforms while utilizing proper fall protection and safety protocols
  • Must be capable of working outside in the elements including but not limited to the heat, cold, rain, snow and wind; and must be able to work for long period of times up to 12 hours a day.
  • Will be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to hard hat, safety glasses/goggles, ear plugs/muffs, masks/respirators, safety vests, gloves and steel-toe boots.
