Job summary

Matrix Service is seeking a skilled Millwright to maintain and repair refinery equipment in our Virginia operations. You will inspect, dismantle, assemble and align gear systems, bearings and shafts, using hand and power tools and light machine tools.

The role requires adherence to safety protocols and the ability to work on emergency repairs. You will oversee preventive maintenance, ensure minimal downtime, and comply with Matrix Service safety and site-specific training.

Qualifications

• Minimum of four (4) years or more in refinery maintenance/turnaround/construction experience.
• General knowledge of basic hand and power tools.
• Ability to assemble, install and test machines and equipment to ensure proper operation.
• Able to operate machinery such as forklifts to move parts.
• Experience overseeing preventive maintenance and lubricating mechanical parts.
• Capable of managing layout and placement of equipment to minimize downtime.
• Must pass Millwright Skills Test at or above 70% or NCCER certification.
• Must complete Matrix Service Safety training and Process Safety Management training.
• Active status in the DISA drug testing program.

Responsibilities

• Receives instructions covering scheduled and emergency repairs, installation and inspection work.
• Inspects plant/refinery equipment for defects and wear.
• Determines best repair methods to minimize production interruption.
• Advises when immediate shutdown is necessary to minimize damage.
• Dismantles, cleans, repairs, replaces, installs and lubricates mechanical equipment.
• Adjusts equipment for proper operating characteristics.
• Performs temporary or permanent repairs as needed.
• Assembles and aligns gears, bearings, and shafts.
• Operates simple machine tools (drill press, pipe-threading, power saw).
• Changes, sets up and adjusts equipment per operating conditions.
• Works with repair crews on emergency breakdowns.

Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications & Experience

• Able to use machinery or equipment, such as forklifts to move mechanical parts.
• Experience overseeing preventive maintenance by identifying and correcting potential issues, removing defective pieces and lubricating mechanical parts
• Must be able to manage the layout and placement of equipment and machinery in factory settings to ensure minimum downtime
• Must be able to pass the Millwright Skills Test at or above 70% or complete the NCCER certification for your craft.
• Must complete the Matrix Service Safety training, Process Safety Management training and Client / Site specific training.
• Must maintain an active status within the DISA drug testing program.

Physical Requirements

• Employee will be standing, walking, bending, squatting and lifting.
• Must be able to hear, speak, understand and communicate effectively May be required to lift, carry and move up to 50lbs.
• May be required to work at heights, climb ladders and stairways and work off platforms while utilizing proper fall protection and safety protocols
• Must be capable of working outside in the elements including but not limited to the heat, cold, rain, snow and wind; and must be able to work for long period of times up to 12 hours a day.
• Will be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to hard hat, safety glasses/goggles, ear plugs/muffs, masks/respirators, safety vests, gloves and steel-toe boots.
