Job summary

SF Metalworks in Colusa, CA is seeking a skilled Millwright / Facilities Technician to install, align, and maintain heavy equipment and to support shop infrastructure and utilities. This is a hands-on, varied role that demands practical problem solving and a safety‑minded approach.

You will diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and basic electrical issues, fabricate parts, perform welding and machining, and coordinate with contractors as needed.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 3+ years of millwright, industrial maintenance, or heavy equipment installation experience in manufacturing, metalworking, or fabrication.
  • Strong working knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Proficiency in welding, cutting, and basic machining.
  • Experience with precision alignment and rigging.
  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • General construction skills including framing, basic electrical, and basic plumbing.
  • Forklift and overhead crane certification, or ability to obtain.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Install, align, level, dismantle, and reassemble industrial machinery and heavy equipment.
  • Maintain and improve preventive maintenance schedules to minimize downtime.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and basic electrical issues.
  • Safely rig, move, and position machinery using cranes, hoists, forklifts, and other equipment.
  • Use precision measuring tools to verify alignment and tolerances.
  • Fabricate, weld, and machine replacement parts, guards, fixtures, and brackets as needed.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance logs, service records, and work orders.
  • Build and improve shop infrastructure and utilities, including walls, partitions, benches, and electrical/plumbing lines.
  • Coordinate with licensed contractors and inspectors when required.
  • Support installation and commissioning of solar and battery storage systems.
  • Assist the fabrication team during heavy production periods.
  • Monitor machining or finishing equipment in operation.
  • Adapt to changing priorities and help wherever needed.

Millwright / Facilities Technician

At SF Metalworks, we're a growing architectural metal fabrication company, and we're looking for an experienced Millwright / Facilities Technician to help keep our shop running while we build it out for the future.

This is a hands-on, wide-ranging role. One day you may be installing and aligning production machinery, and the next you could be framing a wall, running compressed air, repairing equipment, or helping relocate machines. We're looking for someone who can assess what needs to be done, figure out the approach, and get the job done safely and effectively.

What You'll Do

Machinery Installation & Maintenance

  • Install, align, level, dismantle, and reassemble industrial machinery and heavy equipment.
  • Maintain and improve preventive maintenance schedules to minimize equipment downtime.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and basic electrical issues.
  • Safely rig, move, and position machinery using cranes, hoists, forklifts, and other equipment.

Facility Improvements & Utilities

  • Build and improve shop infrastructure, including walls, partitions, benches, racking, platforms, equipment pads, and work areas.
  • Perform general building repairs and upkeep.
  • Install and maintain compressed air lines and machine connections.
  • Perform basic plumbing and electrical work supporting equipment and facility needs.
  • Coordinate with licensed contractors and inspectors when required.
  • Support installation and commissioning of the shop's solar and battery storage systems.

Cross-Functional Support

  • Assist the fabrication team during heavy production periods.
  • Support receiving, material handling, and shop organization.
  • Monitor machining or finishing equipment while in operation.
  • Pick up or deliver parts, materials, and equipment when needed.
  • Adapt to changing priorities and help wherever the operation needs support.
What You Bring

Required

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 3+ years of millwright, industrial maintenance, or heavy equipment installation experience in a manufacturing, metalworking, or fabrication environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Proficiency in welding, cutting, and basic machining.
  • Experience with precision alignment and rigging.
  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • General construction skills, including framing, basic electrical, and basic plumbing.
  • Forklift and overhead crane certification, or ability to obtain.

Preferred

  • Millwright apprenticeship or technical training.
  • Journeyman Millwright certification.
  • Experience with three-phase power, motor controls, or VFDs.
  • Experience maintaining CNC equipment.
  • Solar PV or battery storage installation experience.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
  • Rigging certification.
  • Own hand tools.

Physical Demands & Schedule

This is a hands‑on industrial role requiring the ability to lift 50-75 lbs. regularly and work around noise, dust, temperature variations, heavy machinery, ladders, lifts, and confined spaces. The position requires standing, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in various physical positions. Occasional evening or weekend work may be required for equipment installations, downtime, or emergency repairs.

Schedule: Monday-Thursday | 5:00 AM-3:30 PM 40 hours per week
