Job summary

Mortenson Construction is seeking a Millwright Apprentice to support installation, alignment, and maintenance of industrial equipment at project sites in the Cedar Rapids area. You will learn to read schematics, use hand and power tools, and participate in precision alignment tasks.

The role involves lifting up to 50 lbs (or more with assistance), operating small machine tools when trained, and assisting with the installation of conveyors, rails, and other systems under supervision.

Qualifications

• Ability to perform repetitive motions with hands and arms.
• Lift up to 50 lbs; may lift over 50 lbs with assistance.
• Work in a team to move and assemble equipment.

Responsibilities

• Measure, cut, and install using hand tools and ladders.
• Dismantle machines using hand tools.
• Move machinery with hoists, dollies, rollers, and trucks.
• Assemble and install equipment using hand/power tools.
• Align machines using hoists, jacks, hand tools, lasers, and gauges.
• Bolt, weld, rivet machines to foundations with tools.
• Operate lathe to grind and shape parts.
• Set and align engines, motors, and rails.
• Grease and lubricate equipment.
• Repair and adjust jacks, pull-lift, and torque equipment.

Millwright Apprentice

Mortenson is currently seeking a Millwright Apprentice.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• A. Measure, cut, and install using hand tools and ladders
• B. Dismantle machines using hand tools
• C. Move machinery and equipment using hoists, dollies, rollers, and trucks
• D. Assemble and install equipment (such as shafting, conveyors, and tram rails) using hand and power tools
• E. Align machines and equipment using hoists, jacks, hand tools, squares, rulers, lasers, micrometers, and plumb bobs
• F. Assemble machines with bolts, welds, and rivets, and fasten them to foundation using hand tools and power tools
• G. May operate engine lathe to grind, file, and turn machine parts to dimensional specifications
• H. Set, level, and align all classes and types of engines, motors, dynamos, generators, conveyors, elevators, monorails, train rails, and/or trolley beams or rails
• I. Grease and lubricate all types of equipment
• J. Clean, repair, and adjust all classes and types of jacks, chainfalls, pull-lift, block and tackles, impact wrenches, chipping hammers, rivet guns, air drills, and specialized hydraulic and electric precision torque/tension equipment

QUALIFICATIONS

• Lift, carry, push, pull up to 50 lbs
• Lift, carry, push or pull over 50 lbs with assistance of another team member or equipment

The base pay range for this role is $22.02 per hour.
