Job summary

Coastal Waste & Recycling in Largo, FL is seeking a Plant Technician to maintain our waste and recycling facility. You will perform preventive maintenance, light welding, and repairs to keep systems and infrastructure safe and fully operational.

The role emphasizes hands-on learning, a strong mechanical aptitude, and the ability to work with a team to keep downtime minimal. This entry-level position offers growth opportunities and a supportive environment.

Qualifications

  • One year of mechanical experience, technical training, vocational education, or equivalent hands-on experience preferred.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to safely use hand tools and basic shop equipment.
  • Willingness to build and maintain a professional tool set.
  • Technical school training or bilingual (English/Spanish or English/Creole) skills are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on building systems, machinery, and equipment.
  • Inspect and repair machine belting, bearings and rollers.
  • Assist with maintenance of conveyors and sorting lines.
  • Conduct light welding repairs as needed.
  • Support operations by responding promptly to maintenance requests to minimize downtime.
  • Maintain safe work areas by ensuring walkways, exits, and emergency systems are functional and clear of hazards.
  • Operate small equipment and power tools according to safety guidelines.
  • Coordinate with outside contractors for specialized repairs or projects.
  • Document maintenance activities and communicate issues to management.

Your Role

The Plant Technician is responsible for maintaining the buildings, equipment, and grounds at our waste and recycling facility. You'll be ensuring that the site remains safe, clean, and fully operational by performing preventive maintenance, light welding, repairs, and general upkeep on facility systems and infrastructure.
